(19,253 posts)What they do mean is that the doubts about Trump in his own party will continue to grow. They also mean that fundraising will continue to be a challenge for his campaign.
He's getting throttled and he knows it, that means he's bound to lash out and say even more outrageous things. He's still running a Primary campaign, Hillary is one of the most respected women in the world, people don't want to hear him call her and her husband names. He has no ideas to run on save for crazy ones.

(8,978 posts)The Kochs et al appear to be sitting this one out. Trump must not be a Temptations fan, as he appears "too proud to beg", refusing to personally contact potential sources of campaign cash. If contributions don't come in voluntarily, the ongoing media campaign will have to suffice, as he's done with self-funding. This worked well for Trump during the primary season, but the reviews from the larger electorate are coming in and they are not all good.

I do have to say that as much as we want to think the overt racist crowd is just at Trump events, it isn't. There are a lot of them out there and they vote.

(9,163 posts)And it is good to see Obama approval at 56 percent in the same poll.
The more Americans see of Trump, the more they see a stark contrast with their president.
His approval could carry on rising until the election and beyond while Trump sinks into a death spiral.

Just watch what is happening in the UK right now. The people who are angry will show up in droves to vote for this crazy person. The danger he can do to our country is unimaginable. Just because we are ahead does not mean we don't keep working hard. We need to continue to work hard down ticket too!

(9,163 posts)We cannot take anything for granted, at least until or if we see a total collapse of the Trump vote into the 30 percent range.
Personally, I am optimistic we will see that after the convention that IMO, while giving Trump the nomination, will be a bloodbath of fury, frustration and division within the Republican Party, and there will be an explosion of bad publicity like we have never seen.
When Trump shows he cannot even secure a great deal within his own party, and Republicans are at war over his nomination, many of his loyal followers will doubt his ability to deliver on his promises of making great deals for America.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)but I'll watch this one, for the entertainment value!
Yes, GOTV is more important than ever! It looks good for us, but we can't assume people will be motivated to vote, we have to help them along.

(81,565 posts)You're right, we CANNOT take anything for granted, even while it's nice to see Hillary's numbers rise above 50% (one of those metrics the media takes more seriously).
But I doubt many of his loyal followers will start doubting him, no matter who in the CON "Establishment" runs away from him. They're angry, loud, and in-yer-face. I'd expect that'd make them cling to him even harder. Just for spite. Cuz they wanna make America whiteIMEANGREAT again. Remember these types? They're the ruffians with anger issues who get themselves riled up at Trump rallies with their "lord and savior" at the microphone, egging them on and yelling "get 'im outta here!" when some objector speaks out. And some of them tend to like to be armed.
There are some truly scary, menacing people over on the Trump side. We've seen plenty of examples already.
Doodley
(9,163 posts)I agree not many loyal followers will desert him, but he got only 45% in the primaries, and the recent NBC poll showed only 45% of Republicans approve of him and 52% would have preferred another candidate, so I think his support could be very squeezable and may continue downward on its current trajectory, with a bigger fall after the convention.

(11,607 posts)But polls like this right now make me a little nervous, because it could give steam to the movement among Republican delegates to replace Trump. Given how controversial Hillary is (so many people either love her or hate her), I don't think it is to her advantage to run against a bland run of the mill Republican, especially when the party would not otherwise be favored to retain the White House. That is not a knock on Hillary, just an assessment of the situation.
