Donald Trump’s bad month just got worse, because Sanders backers just rallied to Clinton

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/06/26/donald-trumps-bad-month-just-got-worse-because-bernie-backers-just-rallied-to-clinton/

Donald Trump would like for Bernie Sanders supporters to ditch the Democratic Party and support him. There is very little evidence that they will do that, mind you, but it's certainly possible that they might just stay home — which would help Trump.

Well, we have some bad news for the Trump campaign. Sanders supporters aren't just rallying around Clinton; they're doing it rather quickly. And it's a big reason Clinton just extended her lead over Trump into the double digits, 51 percent to 39 percent.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that Sanders backers, who polls have shown were reluctant to jump over to Clinton and even flirted with supporting Trump, are coming home faster than we might have expected.

Last month, 20 percent of Sanders supporters said they would back Trump over Clinton in the general election. This month, that figure is down to 8 percent....And the poll was conducted before, we would note, Sanders began saying last week that he would support Clinton over Trump in the general election. (Even as he's not endorsing Clinton and is still technically a candidate, Sanders said his supporters would and should not vote for a "bigot" like Trump.).....

In the real world, I think most reasonable people are considering the options and acting accordingly. The only surprise is that it seems to be happening rather quickly. I thought the main shift might be after the conventions.

HRC and BS had much more in common than their respective campaigns suggested.

Since Sanders has said he intends to vote for Clinton, we're very close to unity--and that is a good thing.

The alleged chasm between Sanders and Clinton was never what it was made out to be, and this was always the likely outcome, even if it has often seemed that it wasn't.

Trump is simply unacceptable to the overwhelming majority of Democrats and to a growing number of Republicans. He's Public Enemy #1from now till November.

use any possible advantage to get control of our governments and courts are the big danger. Bernie knows that. He's one of the very few national-level politicians who speaks of the huge danger they have become to democracy.

They thought this would be the election they've schemed and worked toward for 40 years, but setbacks are just something to throw more money and organization at to overcome.

He can't buy a clue.

It seems to me that many of the GOP pols would rather put up with an adversarial "fight the power" relationship with the White House than be forced to explain away/justify/support that TRUMPeting blowhard!

strings from the background. They don't want him for president because they can't depend on controlling him, but that doesn't mean they won't do their best to do just that. They are active every way they figure might work for them and are also likely to come through with some money for Trump if they feel it might be of benefit. They're not running from anything. Right now they're pushing propaganda trying to estrange Bernie supporters from the Democratic Party.

The only people they will "pull away" from the Dems are people who were never with us to begin with--people who, say, agreed with his labor focus and liberal attitude towards drugs, and thought (IMPORTANT CAVEAT: mistakenly) that he was an unbridled 2nd Amendment enthusiast and prioritized economic over racial justice (issues he did clarify during his campaign--but people hear what they want to hear). These people are tailor-made for Trump, who's always bellowing about little guys getting a fair shake while he cons little old ladies out of their pensions.

These people have infiltrated our government at every level, our judiciary, our universities, business, and I would think at least some military, although, interestingly, I haven't read about that. They would get at chance at many future officers at the university stage, though.

probably doesn't care if the Republican Party goes down. I've never seen any indication that he identifies with it or feels he might need it when he's president.

What a great joke on the GOP leadership.

I hope these voters do not stay home. That is my current worry. It would be nice to have a huge turnout and down-ticket dems voted in in droves. I do think Hillary has turned further left and Brexit was a wake up call for all politicians and voters alike. At least I hope so.
