Hillary Clinton now leads Donald Trump by 8 points, her highest advantage since the general election match-up question was first asked on May 2, according to the latest NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll.
Clinton maintains a 6-point advantage over Trump42 percent to 36 percentwhen Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are included as choices in an alternative version of the horse race question, according to the poll, conducted online from June 20 to June 26.
Although the Weekly Election Tracking Poll indicates that Clinton is picking up considerable momentum against Trump, Republican and Republican-leaning voters are rallying behind their party's presumptive nominee and rejecting the "Stop Trump" movement. A large majority of Republican voters would like to see Trump nominated at the Republican convention.

*Let's not get complacent. Donald Trump is as fit to sit in Abraham Lincoln's seat as David Duke, George Lincoln Rockwell, and Tom Metzger

(58,785 posts)stability of support is the takeaway. Political scientists remark on how surprisingly little voter allegiance shifts, and it is definitely showing this year. Happily, so far Trump's support remains continually less than Hillary's.
Check out this terrific, and reassuring, interactive graph from Talking Points Memo and note what happened on the dates mentioned. Makes me wonder if his staff is plotting to lock tRump in a closet or something the week before the election. I especially what like the graph for "likely voters" suggests, tho.

(13,305 posts)Let's not trumpet these poll numbers too much. The GOP already wants an excuse to get him out, and Trump doesn't like to lose so I'm worried that if he senses he will lose that he'll find an excuse to drop out and be replaced with a stronger candidate.
All notions of "Well it would be too hard to ramp up a national campaign this late." will be moot as the anti-Trump Repubs are just looking for a reason to still vote GOP, and the Trump voters will do the same no matter what.

(22,651 posts)IMO, at this low-point in American politics, polls are completely gamed along with most of our medias.

(28,270 posts)He would have to be acceptable to the tea bagger fanatics for one thing, they are running the show in the GOP.
You can forget any moderate appearing republican like Bush, Kasich or Rubio getting the job.
So if they change one nutcase hater like Trump for another one, Hillary and ? still come out on top!

(13,305 posts).....as long as Trump himself bows out and is not forced out....then all of his current voters will still vote for whoever the GOP candidate is, and he would also pick up the "never trump" voters, few as those may actually be.
It would be enough to make this race closer than it should be.

(18,115 posts)charges recommended for Hillary or any of her staff.

(7,393 posts)The GOP is batting zero on their faux scandals.

(18,115 posts)I doubt very much that the FBI will recommend charges against HIllary. I am less sure about her staff. Time will tell. But the FBI criminal investigation is not a GOP faux scandal.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)The FBI is investigating at the request of the GOP. I thought everybody knew that.

(36,063 posts)Maybe a bigger bump for winning the nomination will follow the convention. She was at 44-45 percent national support when the AP declared her victory. .
This seems as much Trump collapse as it is the dem base turning to the winner of our primary season. If the r's continue to turn to Clinton and support the notion of a two-party system Trump collapse works for Clinton.
But if the r's start turning to Johnson in significant numbers, that works against both the belief in a two-party system and the 'no-where-else-to-go', zero-sum game, no degrees of freedom thinking that are associated with it.

(36,063 posts)Rather better than a tie with Trump with Johnson on the rise toward the high-teens.
But it's polling, for what it's worth.

(7,393 posts)Which is why I always laughed at the notion that we could only beat Trump if we nominated someone other than Clinton.
Trump is not going to be president. Can't wait for the first woman president. It will be a glorious day for sure!

(13,305 posts)..which again, is why we better hope he doesn't drop out rather than let himself lose to anyone let alone a woman.
We can beat Trump with anyone as our candidate, but if anyone else gets the nod if he drops out then it will be much closer than it should be.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)Wasn't that the whole rationale for his campaign insisting the supers should flip to supporting the candidate with far less delegates? And I know a lot of folks on the internet seemed to believe that at the time.
There is a lesson to be learned there.

(7,393 posts)This one is - they are ALL politicians and will say whatever they think they need to say. Even if it is completely absurd. There is no purity in politics and if you have been in congress for 30 years you are the very definition of "the establishment."

(1,442 posts)only 8 points? this against the WORST possible candidate the GOP has put up in my lifetime?
HRC better get her situation corrected with her unfavorables, move them from historically worse to just worse...
She needs to address this narrow gap and the WHY it's so slim
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)I regret you find the fact that she is on her way to the largest popular vote victory since 1984 a source of consternation. In any case let us all hope for a harmonious convention that brings us closer to realizing that goal.
HumanityExperiment
(1,442 posts)if you have 'regrets' I'd suspect you would hold that privately since your posts allude otherwise...
Trump is the WORST candidate in my lifetime, and with his tanking you'd EXPECT the gap to be double digits at LEAST
if that's not concerning to you, well you hide it well...
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)It was double digits in the ABC -WAPO poll .
With all due respect, sir or madame, when you demand that people be concerned about the same things as you are you are robbing them of their agency.
Surely, it is not your desire to rob your fellow denizens of this board of their agency.

Two questions
What does "TT" mean?
And do you think "have a nice day" is a kinder, gentler, and more appropriate salutation than "have a day"
Thank you in advance.
