Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick pulls ahead of John McCain in Arizona senate race

Only two pts ahead--but hopefully it will be a trend. This would be a jewel if Ann Kirkpatrick could put old john out to pasture!!

There has been scattered talk for some time about John McCain potentially being in trouble in his 2016 bid for reelection to the senate, and that’s come more into focus as his democratic opponent Ann Kirkpatrick has begun to emerge as a viable mainstream alternative — even as McCain himself keeps finding new ways to stick his foot in his mouth. But with McCain having held small leads in various polls for months, some have been waiting to see if Kirkpatrick could pull ahead before taking her as a serious challenger. As it turns out, that milestone has now been reached.

John McCain had been leading Ann Kirkpatrick by six points in the widely respected PPP poll conducted in May. However the month of June has seen McCain inexplicably claiming that President Obama was at fault for the mass shooting in Orlando, which played so poorly that he ended up having to walk it back. This, combined with McCain’s confusing quasi-endorsement of unpopular republican nominee Donald Trump, appears to have finally cracked open the door of opportunity for Kirkpatrick. In a PPP poll conducted in June, she now leads McCain by two points in the race.

The reason for the shift seems straightforward enough: McCain’s behavior and words seem less maverick-y of late, and more just plain erratic. Ann Kirkpatrick, a popular multi-term congresswoman from Arizona, has a solid mainstream record and may be increasingly seen by voters in the state as a more sensible choice than McCain for the senate seat....................

It's not clear to me which would be more enjoyable: seeing Senator McCain defeated or seeing Congresswoman Kirkpatrick get elected. She is a tremendously smart, talented and accomplished woman and Arizonans would be well-represented by her in the Senate. But the schadenfreude of seeing John McCain get knocked out would alleviate some of the distress I've felt ever since he plucked Sarah Palin out of obscurity and dumped her and her idiocy in our laps.

His words seem just as maverick-y, I suspect maverick-y-ness just isn't as favored as it once was.

dishonorable, and irresponsible. Wallow with pigs and after a while you don't notice the smell.

Frankly, unless he's had a personality transplant, the man he is now could never have been the man I once imagined he might be -- before the internet made learning about these people as easy as tippety-tap and a little careful vetting of sites for probity.

But it was more than his choice of Palin as his running mate that's lost him points over the years.

It's high time he spend some time at home yelling at the kids to get off his lawn and get off the government teet.

It's good to see that's the likely outcome.

or so it seemed, than those slimy GOP Congress bastards he's been supporting and trying to keep in power, including himself. This last era was what would have separated a real maverick from the morally bankrupt crowd sucking up to the ultrawealthy, and it didn't. Good riddance.

It sounds bad, but the schadenfreude I would get from his having to live the rest of his life having been ousted from the Senate could sustain me for weeks. Robbing him of the ability to exit on his own terms (and I think he wants to die a senator) would be small payback for all the shit we've put up from him - Sarah Palin being a not insignificant part of that.

This news will push McCain over the edge...he's just as much a loose cannon as Trump at this point.
