2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHas Bernie ever appeared to work toward or articulated his desire to be VP?
His actions seem contrary to that goal...if there ever was such a goal. I've only heard the VP issue being touted by Bernie supporters. Could they be misreading what Bernie actually wants to do with the future direction of his movement?

(11,613 posts)Plus anyone who says that and doesn't get picked looks really bad so they don't say they wanted it until they got it.

(12,504 posts)I still don't think his actions see that he is open to the idea.

VP is for someone who supports the nominee and is committed to helping them win the general election.
Sanders doesn't meet that basic test and thus is not under consideration.

(12,504 posts)I have a lot of cartoons and "funnies" posted on my office door, that people donate to occasionally. There is one in particular that with some tweaking, could apply here, "if I agreed with you, then we'd both be wrong"

(8,217 posts)He is committed to bringing actual change to the system.
I believe he is surprised that his campaign has made it this far as is, and he entered since Elizabeth Warren did not run, and he wanted to provide a voice to values and aspirations that have fallen to the wayside.
He seems to be continuing with that by endorsing down ticket candidates.
Much like me, my attention is to the lower races now, and I don't see him taking the VP Slot even if asked.
He will most likely keep plugging along as he has been going. Supporting issues close to heart in regards to social equality and fairness. It has always been infrastructure, and I am sure he would probably go for whatever he thinks can further that agenda.

Sanders said he'll meet with HRC after the primaries and they'll decide the next step.

(23,156 posts)and I sincerely doubt he wants the job. Maybe if Warren had run and gotten the nomination he'd have been a good choice.
What many here seem to be completely overlooking is that a Vice President is, in the end, utterly powerless. So the best candidate is someone quite innocuous, whose general outlook on things is in line with the Presidential nominee, who'll be good at attending funerals and making speeches, who would be capable of stepping into the top job if need be, but who is relatively content to see his political career come to a comfortable halt.
And being in line with the nominee is crucial. There are far too many differences between Bernie and Hillary for him to be her VP. Or vice versa.
