Related: About this forumSusan Sarandon Is Still ‘Not Convinced’ It’s Worth It To Vote For Hillary Clinton
Huffington Post:Im not convinced. Im not with her, Sarandon tweeted Tuesday.
Sarandon has been a vocal supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) throughout the Democratic presidential primary. In March, she said she didnt know if she would vote for Clinton over presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Im going to see what happens, Sarandon said.
Here's what will happen:
1. Clinton will be named the nominee at the Convention
2. The Party will be unified around her
3. Clinton will handily beat Donald Trump

(7,393 posts)I have only one "friend" who is a Bernie supporter and she is rich as shit. I told her it's real easy to vote for idealism over actually getting shit done when not getting shit done won't hurt you in the least. Same holds true for that twit Sarandon. Limousine liberal indeed!
because all of the people I know who supported Clinton in the primaries are rich as shit!
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)And the overall democratic voter demographic would be interested to know that you think they are all rich as shit. Who knew that us women, seniors, and minorities were all so rich.

(594 posts)If I were to base my view of things on the people around me, I would think that the middle class doesn't even EXIST anymore. I live in an urban area with a lot of poverty, and I am youngish, so the people I know are also mostly youngish, and are burdened with college debt if they're "lucky." Stuck working crappy service-sector jobs if they're not.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)In fact she won every demo except millennials in many states. I guess your logic fails.
Svafa
(594 posts)I said that I am youngish, and so are most of the people I know. Therefore, we fall into that "Millennial" category you just referenced. And again, this has nothing to do with "logic." You made a statement framed as a personal observation. I replied with my own personal observations.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)"all of the people I know who supported Clinton in the primaries are rich as shit!"
So you would like us to believe that every person you know that supported Clinton was "rich as shit" even though you then can back and said the only people you know are "broke as fuck."
Your posts make no sense from a logical standpoint.
Svafa
(594 posts)I said everyone I know WHO VOTED FOR CLINTON is rich as shit. Then I said that MOST of the people I know are broke, EXCEPT for some well-off family members. Implicit in that statement was that those well-off family members are the only people I know who voted for Clinton. Everyone else (i.e., most people I know, the broke ones) either supported Sanders or are too broken down and exhausted to pay attention to politics at all.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)Sadly you cannot keep your story straight. I won't bother speculating as to why that is.
Have a nice day.
Svafa
(594 posts)Why is this so difficult to grasp? I made my point abundantly clear, and there is absolutely no contradiction in it. Now it seems that you are just nitpicking because you don't have a real argument.
Shall I rephrase?
The only people I know who voted for Clinton are the few people I know who are well-off. The majority of people I know are people who are broke or in serious debt, and these individuals did not vote for Clinton.
There, clear enough for you?
Peace out.

(236 posts)got 10 hours credit for calculus and 4 for French my freshmen year at U of Illinois and graduated in three years with an undergraduate degree in Math and went on to law school. And I paid for half of undergraduate, and all of law school with loans and working 20-30 hour a week. And that was not an unusual story, and quite honestly the norm with my girlfriends in the 70's. Dollar for dollar, college tuition to minimum wage to tax rates were not much different than today, but we had no expectation the public would pay for our education.
But I had every expectation that if I got a good education, good work experience, and worked hard, I could support myself. Of course we did not spend half the day on the computer in those days. Did learn the very basics of computer programming however.
And damn right I am a Hillary supporter. My life was still so much easier than hers with women like her and Ruth Bader Ginsburg before her breaking barriers I can only imagine. Some of you need to read more and acknowledge the barriers that came before you. And appreciate those who walked before you.

But those who are criticizing her and questioning her for being hypocritical because of some of the political stances she's taken and has supported. She can point her finger at Hillary, but there are others pointing back at her too.
Works BOTH ways, although as some have said Ms. Sarandon and her children (child) can more than likely afford and can make it through a Trump presidency.

(12,530 posts)I don't think it leads to good places when such binary groupthink takes over a place like it's done here. There's a list of Bad Things and Bad People which/who must be excoriated. And there's a much smaller list of Good Things and Good People that/who can and should be praised. Due process is now a bad thing. Liberalism, in the traditional sense, is becoming a bad thing. England is apparently made up of a majority racist population these days. And Susan Sarandon is a bad, bad, no good person.

(37,428 posts)But I'm afraid you're right, and that Clinton will be able to skate into the White House thanks to Trump. I just wish she felt like she had to try more, because we need bigger progressive ideas driving a president committed to us.
Whimsey
(236 posts)I believe Hillary is every bit as progressive as Bernie, but with her experience she understands the necessity of nuance in a election cycle. You cannot win an election on support of progressives alone, which is why so many of us who have seen the election cycle go forward and backward support Hillary. Having a black man, who earned the vote 150 years ago, as president was progressive, having a woman who earned the vote 95 years ago is just as progressive. Progressive ideas are not just about economics. It is about moving all segments of society forward to equality. And historically women have been the most consistently least equal group across all societies.
