2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDear Bernie:
I admire you and your programs. I wish you had been the guy to make it to the White House and implement your agenda. But it's become obvious that it's not going to happen.
Right now, with every appearance you make, and with every word you utter, you're hurting Hillary and helping Trump.
I know this is not what you want to do. I know you would lead a revolution if Trump ever made it to the White House.
The thing is that, right now, you're helping him with your very presence in the race.
So let me say this.
You made a valiant run to make the world a better place. It failed (this time around).
Therefore, Bernie, someone will pick up your banner in the future.
But for right now:
It's time to stop talking. It's time to withdraw publicly. It's time to get behind Hillary.
It's over for the moment.

(38,613 posts)Hillary is the nominee, yet some prefer to keep bashing Bernie rather than actually support Hillary.

(19,877 posts)There is a "progressive" alternative site entirely dedicated to continue bashing the Democratic nominee anything goes, yet not a peep about Trump. But we on DU must walk on eggshells for Bernie?

But it may be better to just laugh at these type threads?

(643 posts)Thank you for continuing to point out what the Democratic party needs to change and bring it back to what it once was; a party that represents the people, not corporate America and special interests. Thank you for not giving up and demanding that the party take steps in the right directions before relenting. Thank you for your courage to stand up for the people rather than simply falling in line and doing what you're told.

(643 posts)Doesn't seem to be a lot of inflection around here regarding the direction of the party. Just a lot of cheerleading. Is everyone afraid to challenge the status quo?

(643 posts)The sheep reference is more for the DU, though it could be extended to the public in broad terms. You know, party above all else. Swear loyalty to the party. Endorse or be outcast. That kind of mentality.
Vs critical thinking; Like, hey, maybe fracking is bad. Perhaps trade agreements that send our jobs overseas aren't good for us. Perhaps that pipeline ain't so grand. Maybe we should reconsider before invading other countries and destabilizing a region. Or maybe no fly zones and regime changes might not be good. Maybe we should say yes to reinstating Glass Steagall and no to Wall Street bribery. Maybe free tuition for college is a good thing, as an educated society benefits all of us. The list goes on. But ever since Clinton became the presumptive nominee I see little discussion about how the party needs to get back to working for the people and talking about issues. Instead I see cheerleading and calls on Sanders to fall in line. Hence the sheep comment. Hope that clears it up.

(643 posts)You may have skimmed the issues previously mentioned (many HRC supporters tend to) but you see, they are actual issues. Things that should matter, and yet don't seem to, as Hillary and the Democratic party are embracing the gop point of view on each one of those issues. That troubles me. And it leaves me wondering if party loyalty is so blind that much of America has gone blind to how the party has lost its way.
And regarding the hero worship claim, Bernie is a nice guy and I credit him with bringing to light the many flaws of the party and its nominee. But in the end, it's not about Bernie Sanders. And it's not about party loyalty and following along like sheep, turning a blind eye to the conservative shift the party has taken. It's about finding candidates that are dedicated to doing the right things for the right reasons. Candidate > party loyalty.
