2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOk. Tim Kaine is killing it
And love how he keeps interspersing his Spanish ....crowd seems to love it. Just seems like an all-around good guy.
This may be exactly the right branding for the Clinton campaign as a stark contrast to hum-Trump.

(44,576 posts)So he is capable of balancing the Hillary ticket -- whew!
And look on the bright side -- she could have chosen Vilsack.

(4,311 posts)I cried at Hillary's speech last night from Tampa. It was such a great reminder that people aren't evil and horrible like I was feeling watching the Nuremberg rallies in Cleveland. A complete breath of fresh air.

(1,353 posts)Such a great guy with the perfect experience. He does seem like Biden... A good fit for Hillary...so upbeat...so likable and a cute friendly face!!
Love his Spanish... It will certainly be a plus... What could Bernie supporters complain about...come on... They will be a great team!!

(934 posts)It says volumes about Hillary that she chose Kaine.
It says volumes about Pence that he allowed himself to be co-opted by Trump.

(3,626 posts)by tRump is the least of it. Pence is definitely not a nice guy. Rabidly anti-gay and hate-filled (among other things) does not constitute a nice guy. Ever.
He also wants to privatize Social Security and voucherize Medicare. He's a "screw the public" servant.

(58,785 posts)who are his own, but to those who are not "close to god," including no doubt most of the planet's billions? An Indiana appeals court just reversed a ruling with a 20-year sentence for a woman who got an abortion at about 25 weeks for feticide.

(32,701 posts)trolls who knew Kaine would be a slam dunk. This guy has clearly lived and walked the talk for decades, not just in recent years like other potentials.
Bradical79
(4,490 posts)for most at least. Following a thread on another board and it's just a lot of surprise. "I can't beleive how wrong I was", "wow, I was so wrong about this guy", etc. etc. seems to be a common thought process. My Republican dad was watching with me, and I think he was convered to supporting a progressive agenda on the spot, lol. It's not just how Time Kaine spoke either, but his personality and demeanor is a perfect contrast to everything about the Republican ticket.
PearliePoo2
(7,768 posts)This is huge, it really is! Because if your Republican dad did this then we can assume millions of Re-pugs will also! Awesome!!

(18,402 posts)What a clear-messaged, positive, sunny, amiable, accomplished person--not only a perfect partner to support, complement, and humanize Hillary Clinton, but a perfect foil to the acrid, selfish, dark team of Trump and Pence.
I was a minor skeptic of this choice at first, but I now think it's brilliant. As was the brilliant choice of Tammy and Marvin singing Ain't No Mountain to introduce them!
gogo_du
(29 posts)I've watched a couple of his interviews. He interviews really well and comes off as likeable and charismatic. It's pretty stark compared to Trump.

(1,835 posts)I was like this guy is going to lose us the election before. Not anymore. This is the best VP rollout I've ever seen.
He is a star and speaks to everyone we need to win in November.

(28,254 posts)There's a reason why Senator Kaine has never lost an election in a moderate (and previously red) state. He connects with people and convinces them that he truly is there to fight for them.

(4,238 posts)As VP rollouts go, this was perfection. It was all about Kaine, and he delivered a knock-out. Not super happy about his record, and wished desperately that it was Warren, but feeling a bit better after watching that.
lostnfound
(16,178 posts)Tim Kaine seems like he has the EQ to have influence over the long term.
A stronger dose of progressivism (Warren or sanders) as VP probably would have been ignored by Hillary.
As far as the range of likely picks for her, he seems like a very good one.
I found Kaine's comment about knowing what it was like to have a dictator in the Honduras particularly fascinating.
I like the Jesuit schooling, the racial closeness, the awareness of the lives of the have nots, the readiness to confront the NRA all very positive.
