2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum"The Russians are coming!" And our media doesn't seem to give a damn. Think about it!!
The evidence is much more solid that there is a link between Trump and Russia on the leaked e-mails than there is any evidence that the DNC actually DID anything to hinder Sanders campaign. Memos between DNC staff that PROPOSE some actions to take against Sanders that even their own e-mails said would be wrong do not compare to the links now being exposed between Trump, Trump staff and Putin...not to mention how the GOP would be making a HUGE stink about his wife's dad having been a communist.
That said, think about this: All the lives and treasure fighting the cold war and establishing NATO and other forces to stop the Russian (communist) aggression and we might now elect a person who has both personal and political ties to Russia? How does that honor our military, our sacrifices of life and treasure? Maybe Kruschev was right when he said "We will bury you!"
I have to say, had this been a situation that the Hillary was as close to Putin as Trump obviously is, the media and the GOP would be all over this and you wouldn't hear about anything else. But it seems that our own media is down playing the Russian link in favor or piling on and trashing DWS. They just keep pushing the story that somehow Hillary cheated and did not really win the nomination...14 million votes aside.
Just think if Hillary had totally kicked DWS to the curb we would be hearing how disloyal Hillary is to people who work for her and who helped her and the Democratic Party for so long...in fact long before Bernie Sanders was a Democrat or even well known. It is shameful how HRC has been treated by the media and people who have no appreciation for lifelong service to causes from which they benefit.

(12,079 posts)Leading Democrats need to make it an issue. Every speaker at the convention should at least acknowledge that it is very strange that Trump seems to think Russia and Putin is great, but he doesn't think the same of America.

(6,716 posts)the messenger got those emails from a government that hacked into the DNC with the intention of disrupting an election. If you think this okay, then you might be on the wrong board.

(6,552 posts)Evidence mounts that Russian intelligence, meaning Putin, has gotten his hands into the US election and one wonders what will happen next. Meantime, Trump continues to say that "Putin likes me" as if that is a reason to vote for him.
What's next? Who knows? But this Russia-Trump connection is scary as heck. Meanwhile, here at DU, DWS and emails continue to be the story of the day.
Mind blowing.

kstewart33
(6,552 posts)US actions in other countries isn't the point here.
It's more than Putin's moves to influence the election. It's about the possibility of a US president having major financial interests in Russia and who continues to brag, as he did this morning, "Putin likes me."

And should we not mention, but the Trump campaign certainly will, the Clinton Foundation?

(35,015 posts)that you would post this rather serious accusation. Does anyone remember McCarthy and his accusations about Democrats being Communists during the cold war? Maybe a better word than fascinating is ironic.
I'd really like to see solid evidence before jumping on your bandwagon.

(35,015 posts)I really don't like red-baiting, especially if it's for political manipulation (McCarthy anyone??). I want to see some proof otherwise it's only a conspiracy theory.
If there's solid evidence and I've missed it - please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

(10,925 posts)Nobody is claiming the Russians wrote those emails or was behind the corruption of the DNC.
This is classic shooting the messenger ... but without solid proof the Russians were the messenger. Because maybe it will take our eyes off the ball.
The more troubling question is who beyond DWS was involved in the corruption of the DNC (and by violating their bylaws to be unbiased, they were corrupted) and how much impact did that corruption have on the end result?
The media hasn't got there yet but more than likely, some eventually will.
Now someone can try to shoot me, another messenger, wrongfully claiming I'm a Russian-Trump plant because I had the nerve to ask who beyond DWS was involved in this mess. Shooting me isn't going to make that question go away. We need answers - not trite sacrificial lambs to sucker us into thinking "problem solved!"

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/04/24/us/cash-flowed-to-clinton-foundation-as-russians-pressed-for-control-of-uranium-company.html
As the Russians gradually assumed control of Uranium One in three separate transactions from 2009 to 2013, Canadian records show, a flow of cash made its way to the Clinton Foundation. Uranium Ones chairman used his family foundation to make four donations totaling $2.35 million. Those contributions were not publicly disclosed by the Clintons, despite an agreement Mrs. Clinton had struck with the Obama White House to publicly identify all donors. Other people with ties to the company made donations as well.
And shortly after the Russians announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in Uranium One, Mr. Clinton received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.
