Congratulations to President Obama from Canada!

I think you vote your leaders based on their policies, their character and the current time in which they are to lead the nation. Obama is the right man for the job at this time.

As a dual citizen who saw the rise of Reagan, the Gingrich hijacking of Congress and the Bush years I think the U.S. turned a corner tonight.

This victory was more important than the one 4 years ago. On that night the U.S. elected it's first black President, but after 4 years of racist slurs, and red scare propaganda the U.S. reelected him. The racism, jingoism and scare tactics failed - even after that black President passed health care reform, allowed gays into the military and endorsed marriage equality and even after that black President campaigned on a promise to raise taxes (for the wealthiest Americans). There has been a shift in the way Americans think about themselves, about equality, about government and taxes and that shift has been a long time coming.

I am hoping that someone other than Biden or H. Clinton gets the nod in 2016, but that is a whole other discussion. Whoever runs the Dems will have a huge advantage going in. Some very wealthy people dropped billions of dollars into Romney's coffers and lost, with nothing to show for it. They are not likely to cough up as much or as easily in 2016 and may even have to reconsider their allegiances. When the actual campaign comes whoever the nominee is will have Bill Clinton and Barack Obama out stumping and fundraising for them. Including the VP the Dems will be able to be in 4 places at once - Meanwhile, who do the Republicans have? Bush? Cheney?

So, again, congrats on your victory tonight. But before you go to sleep tonight, write yourself a note for tomorrow. In politics no victory is final. In 730 days you have a chance to take over the house and in 1460 days someone other than Obama will be elected - in between there are countless issues that need attention. You've won today but tomorrow is a whole new fight.
