We have our work cut out for us for the Senate in 2014.

Mark Begich (AK), Mark Pryor (AR), Mary Landrieu (LA), Kay Hagen (NC), and Tim Johnson (SD) will all be up for reelection on our side.

Most republicans up for reelection that year seem safe, except for maybe Susan Collins.

It's going to be tough, but we have to support these red state Democrats the best we can. Remember, they'll be making decisions based on trying to get reelected. We're going to have to give them some slack.

I think I would like them all sworn in first. And I think we have a better shot at cleaning 'House' so to speak.

I also want to make sure we aren't giving up key parts of the Convention Platform. . . that platform sent us over the top and differentiated us from the side that just l-o-s-t. I'm not willing to give them ANY slack if they vote against the best interest of women, minorities, immigrants, the youth vote (jobs, education, student debt), or small business owners.

3. Unfortunately far too many here advocate the analog of a Mourdock/Akin strategy

Whereby firebrand ideologues must be nominated, electability be damned; any deviation from the most perfect purity is unacceptable. We have Senators-elect today in red states because the Republicans went down that path. We should learn from their failure, not chase it as we did with Nelson etc. You are correct, but to me it's not so much giving slack as acknowledging that a Senator from AK or AR cannot, and to be honest, in a representative model of government, should not, be as liberal as one from MA or NY.
