(28,086 posts)maybe you can convince me.
I'm voting for her - but I'm a long way from being happy about it.

(115,900 posts)but I'm persuaded that she'll manage competently and rationally. That's a really major selling point for me.

(28,086 posts)I just wish I could trust her not to move back to right of center.
I'm really hoping she proves me wrong.

(28,086 posts)And true, listening to her - sounding as sane as she does - it is beyond me how anyone would even toy with the idea of voting for him. Of course, I thought that before, but the speeches must be compared.
The debates (if Trumpsky shows up for them) should be awfully entertaining.

and Bernie Sanders will still be a huge part of the campaign + party future- I have a feeling he will have a cabinet position.

(11,949 posts)No offense intended and I would not be that upset, but he is positioned to be very powerful in the senate when we regain control.

(14,599 posts)Together. For years, we've been propagandized by Fox and hate-talk radio to hate and mistrust each other and think it's everyone for themself.
Tonight, Clinton changed that meme. Let's hope we together can change America's minds on supporting and helping each other. That will make us much stronger as a people and make America a much better place to live.
Together.
A good message, and one I can support.
And she actually has a plan. That I can also support.

(30,817 posts)The theme was excellent, and she had a sharp look to her face which gave it even more umph.

(2,720 posts)If she doesn't get congress, there are going to have to be ugly compromises to get anything near what she wants to do done.
The closer she can make it though, the better her negotiating position will be.

(58,785 posts)as well as the senate, also many judicial and state seats, even legislatures. IF. BIG IF, and you're absolutely right, but very wonderfully or tragically possible.
All our acquaintances who don't vote are the Democrat's weakness. Helping GOTV is the most important thing we all can do. Take a friend or two to the polls. Maybe on the way to dinner and a movie.

(6,133 posts)I just cannot figure out how Trump was ever in the equation.
I'm concerned about the blue collar white guys I work with, though. There are groups out there who hate her no matter what. That destroy all Clintons at any cost has been out there for decades. They hated the Tammy Wynette thing with Hillary. Back then, I thought...WTF, are you kidding?
My God how absurd it has all been. It has been a long road, and though I don't like many things Democrats have done in the past, there has never been a choice. Republicans have consistently been horrible. And Hillary was not perfect, but she has been great overall....better than most.
Trump vs. Hillary? The choice is obvious.

(4,311 posts)If they won't vote Hillary but they're concerned about Trump, encourage them to go for Johnson. Best strategy.

(12,880 posts)I still can't forgive anyone for voting to give GW Bush authority to invade Iraq instead of standing up and being a leader to stop that catastrophic war before it started, but I have become convinced that Hillary has devoted her life to making positive changes that help people who are less fortunate.

(15,557 posts)So many emotional moments in the audience, too. Chelsea is a poised, beautiful young woman. I am Hillary's age and can remember so many things our generation of women had to deal with and fought to change so that our daughters would never have to experience them too, and she was out there fighting on behalf of all of us. Like her, I now have a granddaughter and we have to marginalize all those old, angry white men who want to keep us down once again. So many strong women at this convention.
There just is no choice for any rational person in this country come November. It must be Hillary.

(171 posts)I've always always hoped that Hillary's bad press was largely republican propaganda, but I've decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Not only does she have an impressive list of references and endorsements from President Obama and other I greatly admire, the democratic platform has moved sufficiently to the left so that I can upgrade my support for Hillary from reluctant to optimistic and highly enthusiastic, and I couldn't be happier

(54,448 posts)She's not as good at public speaking as Bill or Obama, but then few are.
It has been my experience that many prominent people are different up close from their TV image, and once the public image is established by the MSM, it sticks whether justified or not. I have met people whose politics I totally agreed with, and was destroyed when I met them and they turned out to be (to me, anyway) complete assholes. Worse yet, I have met people whose politics I abhor, and found them to be friendly, engaging people. The norm is usually somewhere in between. I wish I could say something about Bernie Sanders, and let you all in on the man as he really is, but I have never met the guy.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,900 posts)from working in the AR state government. My hesitation had less to do with personality than policy positions, but right now nothing matters more than squishing Trump like the insect he is, and I have no doubt Hillary can do that.
I have met Al Franken and Paul Wellstone, and in person they are (were) just as nice and generally awesome they seem on the teevee.
DFW
(54,448 posts)My dad knew his Republican predecessor, Rudy Boschwitz, and Boschwitz told my dad before the election that he knew Wellstone was going to beat him. It was my dad's job to know all senators and congressmen from all Great Lakes states, which he did starting in 1950, and he had to know them no matter what party they belonged to. When you consider the members of Congress who were from Great Lakes states since 1950 (my dad passed in 2000) that were major figures on the national stage, it's quite a roster! Just some of them include: Tom Dewey, Jake Javits, Nelson Rockefeller, Bobby Kennedy, al D'Amato, Pat Moynihan, Hugh Scott, Phil Hart, Gerry Ford, Everett Dirksen, Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphrey, I mean the list goes on and on and on.
I liked Al Franken immensely, too, by the way.

(4,640 posts)So very glad you're seeing what those of us who've supported Hillary for years have seen for a long, long time!
Because this is politics, something we should all remember is that we're not going to agree with our candidates 100% of the time. They're human beings, and as such, will make mistakes as well.
Once we get them into office, the next step is to STOP this no turnout shit in the midterms. That has been lethal for we Democrats.
Vote up and down the ticket! Vote every election!

(6,609 posts)I voted Bernie in the primaries but I realize a Democrat in the WH is better than a Republican in the WH, period.
And Trump? He's a national emergency. If Trump wins, everything Bernie stands for will be DEAD. American values as we know them will be dead. The best way to honor & respect Bernie is to do what he asks & vote for Hillary. She'll be capable & competent, & she's shown that she takes Bernie's vision seriously & she'll fight for the issues he represents.
I have no reservations at all about voting for Hillary, I've been around a while, I've seen a lot of candidates come & go, & I know she'll be a damn good POTUS.
