2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary won me over tonight.
I have to admit that I've never been a Hillary admirer. What would you expect? I'm an angry old white guy. But I'm also reasonable (at least according to me -- luckily my wife and daughter think so too -- lucky me!), so I'm a devout Bernie supporter. Bernie rocks! So I' m pretty darned surprised. I didn't think I had it in me to feel GOOD about Hillary. But she won me over. This was the first time she has ever struck me as genuine -- perhaps that is why. So ... that'S it ! I have nothing more to say. That's enough. Although as always, I reserve the right to change my mind ... but most likely not my vote.

(47,285 posts)I remember the Hillary from the early 1990s and she was very genuine and forthright. I think she finally found some of the old Hillary. It has been quite a journey.

(2,510 posts)tonight, she made me feel GOOD about that!
I'm an angry old white guy too, but as far as I know, her sex never had anything to do with my aversion-- my problems with her were more issue-based. Tonight, she was sounding a lot more like Bernie Sanders to me, and she reached out to us, and I appreciate that-- I think maybe you tuned in to that as well. Maybe it was just a matter of where emphasis is placed.
I'm glad women are going to break that ceiling!

(10,704 posts)She has had a genuine connection with these people for decades.
We are so lucky to have her as a nominee.
The contrast with Trump could not be more stark.

(16,162 posts)Explained something. If your mother doesn't let you back inside the house -- blocks the door when you are four and you are being bullied outside -- she teaches you to be tough and resilient (which Hillary has in spades) but she doesn't teach you to be soft or vulnerable. In fact, she teaches you that even your own mother doesn't have your back.
I grew up with a sweet, protective older sister and softhearted mother. I feel no need to hide myself or my feelings, because I was made to feel safe and protected by others.
It's not wrong; it's just different.
None of us are perfect. I just wanted to get a feeling about "who is the real Hillary?" And she doesn't wear it on her sleeve.

(37,364 posts)has always puzzled me. I know other women who are reserved in public. I'm that way myself. When I was a young girl, we were taught not to be as gregarious as men are. I've always liked her matter-of-fact approach to conducting public business. I supported the President in the last two elections and I used to get a little miffed with her in 2008. However, you could not fault her on her earnestness or her dedication, which was evident. It takes a sensitive and genuine person to deliver the nomination to President Obama with grace as she did in 2008. It takes a great heart to become a friend and confidante to the person who was your opponent. That alone should recommend her humanity to people.

(11,949 posts)And you are totally correct, not wrong, just different.
But when my dad made me stand up to a neighborhood bully he had my back in a way that lasted a lifetime. And yes, that was when boys used to fight, and I do not approve of it today. But he never bullied me or anyone else in the neighborhood again.
Taught me a lesson I have not forgotten. Not the fighting part, but the standing up to Bullies part.
And I am an old white guy who has been a fan of Hillary for quite a while.
Have a great evening. It is easier after last night! I am as fired up as I have been in a while. Several of my sensible republican friends are not voting for Trump. Only one admits he will vote for Hillary, but a republican vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary.
