(8 posts)Not when you consider that most people that watched were Dems anyway. Therefore, most pollers were most definitely Dems too. Great numbers though.

(2,510 posts)were the anti-Hillary Bernie forces--- Hillary NEVER did well in those---
so if Hillary's getting numbers like these, even in an "online poll"--
I don't know how you can consider it anything but GREAT!
An offline poll will be more reliable, of course, when we can get one...

(109,825 posts)Hillary did much better in this poll than the Don did in his comparable poll last week. For example, 57% of the people who watched the GOP convention gave him a very positive rating, as opposed to 71% for Hillary.

John Poet
(2,510 posts)however, it was true that we ROUTINELY managed to get blowouts in many of those, because so many of his supporters were the more-active people online. Hillary never did very well in them.
So the favorable results in this one are the more striking to me, because it's really the first one in which I've seen her do well. NOT just 'well', but outstanding-- I wouldn't have expected those kind of numbers with Obama as the speaker.

(85,921 posts)But I agree with you NYC Liberal. Judging from this, as well as the favorable comparisons and terrific reviews across the board, the Dems' convention bounce is likely to be substantial! I expect it to be very corrective of last week. Trump got what I've seen described as a moderate bounce. The Dems' bounce will likely wipe that out completely.

Frankly, I don't personally have a problem with a 'policy wonk' in the White House. Those are the folks that figure out answers and get things done, something that Hillary has been doing for a lot of years.

(8,377 posts)If it was "too liberal", I don't see how it could be "workmanlike". It it was "too liberal", then they must have thought it was hitting some points rather hard.
As usual, what passes for "liberal" is still to the right of the transitional center of our spectrum. I think Hillary made it as liberal as she could stand in order to appease the Sanders supporters. We will probably see her do the usual "Clinton triangulation" to the right, which would be a YUGE mistake, considering who she is running against. The positions she laid out are not at all liberal -- they are right down the center of Middle Class America today.

(29,333 posts)Trump's very positives were lower (57) and his negatives were higher (24). (As I understand it, these polls survey people who have been contacted and identified beforehand, so they tend to skew positive, rather than being a random sample of people who watched the speech. Still, the fact that her numbers are *that* high is certainly a good thing.)

(456 posts)There is a really interesting spike last night, which is not the thing we were expecting to see. We saw a 190 percent spike in surge interest in voter registration, which is actually the highest point since the end of the primaries.
The Democratic convention is generating twice as many searches for voter registration information as the Republican convention, Rogers says.

The DNC on balance was a parade of political superstars with
interlocking messages and like Obama's speech carried a tone
of proud defiance, moral progress, and resolve.
This is not the party of 1988-2004 which at times was timid, fearful,
downtrodden, while accomodating at other times

(2,148 posts)Trump will continue to characterize Hillary as Crooked Hillary. Crooked Hillary versus the Bully or the Mean Guy is unlikely to be helpful for Hillary. But, in my opinion, Crooked Hillary versus the Loose Cannon tilts the contest toward Hillary. Crooked can be debated, but every time Trump opens his mouth, most of his history, everything validates the label of Loose Cannon. And, a Loose Cannon is someone who is scary and dangerous.

So is this saying that a majority of voters think President Obama has taken us the wrong direction, and President Clinton will take us the right direction?
That doesn't seem to jive with President Obama's higher approval #'s.

(49,895 posts)in the way she speaks, she ties off every loose end and what could be
misinterpreted language.
She left no ambiguities. That is an incredible asset.
What I mean is:
If you say "the Republicans" did this or that and then list 10 things,
you have to repeat "the Republicans" 10 times to drill it into people's minds
and so the press won't misquote or selectively quote.
Obama and Bill often did not follow that discipline.
