https://newrepublic.com/article/135652/hillary-survived-gauntlet-saboteurs-scoundrelsWho says she cant bring us all together? Hillary Clinton, in the middle of her glass-shattering ascent, found herself besieged on all sides as a cast of Batman-style villains from literally around the world sought to sabotage her convention.
Donald Trump, Julian Assange, Susan Sarandon, Nina Turner, Vladimir Putin, and Dr. Jill Steinpolitical bedfellows dont get any odder than this.
The most infamous moment, of course, was Trump pleading with Vlad the Eavesdropper to further aid his ratfucking of Hillary by producing still more computer hacks. Trump had already exposed himself as a gushing Putin fanboy, even offering to turn NATO into a protection racket for the shirtless Kremlin tyrant.
<snip>
And whatever they invent will fall on wide-open ears in the Khmer Rouge faction of the Bernie-or-Bust crowd. More annoying than a stadium full of vuvuzelas, the Berners chanted and ranted and cried and cat-called throughout the convention. Almost no one was spared, with insults hurled willy-nilly regardless of who was at the podium or what they stood for.
Inane cries of Goldman Sachs! greeted the Senates scourge of Wall Street, Elizabeth Warren, while chants of Black lives matter! interrupted Senator Cory Booker, the former mayor of Newark, and shouts of No more wars! stomped on former CIA Director Leon Panettas attempt to bring up Trumps collusion with a foreign potentate. Much worse were the visuals of enraged, young white people, their faces contorted in hate, obliviously screaming invective through the speeches of older, African-American representatives such as Marcia Fudge, Elijiah Cummings, and even the 76-year-old dean of the civil rights movement, John Lewis.
The article does go on to point out "Just who these bravehearts were representing was unclear, since polls show that 90 percent of the Berners are already on board with Hillary."
I thought it was an interesting article, although I disagree with the author's characterization of the convention as "sterile" but for the President's speech and Michelle Obama.
I found so many of the speeches inspiring - but then again it seems the authors may have been watching the coverage on MSNBC. Which would explain a lot! I watched bobble-head free coverage on DirecTV #347 and chose CNN for post-convention analysis. So I saw the whole convention and made up my own mind about what I saw before hearing any talking heads opine.
Overall, they seem to give the convention, and most importantly Hillary herself very high marks. Worth the read.
Now ONWARD to go stuff that giant, poorly-aged, orange toddler back in his playpen!

Well, compared to the malignant filth incubator that was the RNC, I'll take "sterile" any day.

It's likely I will steer clear of MSNBC for some time.

(28,340 posts)the left (re those on the convention floor) usually have a hard time with motivation and organization. Thank goodness they were much less of a stain than they intended.

She doesn't mock them, or call them "low information" or any of that nonsense. Just rolls up the sleeves and keeps moving forward!

(12,448 posts)except for the "sterile" part. That convention was anything but sterile! I'm still on a "Convention High." I too found the speeches inspiring; many of them left me in tears.
I loved it when the crowd chanted USA! USA! to drown out the spoiled brats. No worries, they will be forgotten in a few weeks or less.

(58,724 posts)From Nate Silver (on Twitter):
Seeing the number everywhere that 90% of Sanders voters back Clinton. It comes from a Pew poll -- Pew is great -- but a bit misleading.
90% is what you get if you *force* Sanders voters to choose between Clinton and Trump. No Johnson, Stein, undecided or "won't vote"

Doesn't matter. Our Democratic Party convention was a freakin' HOME RUN! It was awesome!

(53,778 posts)What the hell is their rationale?
Trump is the alternative, or maybe Stein or Johnson.
Come to think of it, with Johnson in the race pulling a way higher percentage than away from Trump than Stein is from Clinton, they have even less rationale for there antics.

(58,724 posts)It has been encouraging, though, to see how Bernie has come out strongly in support of Hillary and that many of even his most ardent supporters have followed suit. Perhaps some of those who are now gravitating towards Jill Stein will reconsider as time goes on.

(145,231 posts)We had whip captains who texted instructions and warnings about various sanders tactics. I can see now where they got that information. My whip captain was very effective and active and I was passing on the instructions to the people seated next to me at the convention

(28,340 posts)Our convention was AMAZING to watch! SO inspiring.
The A-holes that sought to mar it, in the end they accomplished almost nothing at all, other than to sour what should have been a joyous and extraordinary experience for the person they claimed to be supporting, Senator Sanders. They reflected very poorly on him and his campaign. He deserved to enjoy that convention too, and they sullied his experience, IMO.
But other than that, it absolutely ROCKED.
I hope you got to keep a lot of accoutrements!

(90,683 posts)You're right about assessing the convention -- I thought it was anything but "sterile." Like you, I turned elsewhere for my coverage; mostly CSPAN for coverage, and 90% PBS/NPR for commentary.
It was inspiring and heartwarming, and by the time Barack Obama wound up his speech I felt so proud to be an American and so proud to be a Democrat.
