Why This Election Will Probably Be Close

Last edited Wed Aug 3, 2016, 02:30 AM - Edit history (1)

I know some people think this election will be a blowout, but there are a lot of people who don't like Hillary so won't bother to vote and a lot of disaffected white folks (and others) who would rather see an idiot like Trump get elected than a liberal, a Democrat, and a woman. I think we really need to treating this election like it's Trump's to lose. He is very dangerous. If the Germans could elect Hitler, the Americans can certainly elect Trump.

Public Policy Polling: “This election is never likely to turn out to be the sort of landslide for Clinton that some expected a year or 6 months ago because Trump voters just hate Clinton too much for that to ever happen. For instance on this poll we find that 74% of Trump voters think Clinton should be in prison, to only 12% who disagree. By a 66/22 margin they say Clinton is a bigger threat to the United States than Russia. And 33% think Clinton even has ties to Lucifer, to 36% who say they don’t think so, and 31% who are unsure either way.”

“Against that set of findings it’s simply not very likely that many Trump voters will be moving into the Clinton column and that’s why although she’s certainly the favorite the chances of her winning adouble digit victory are pretty minimal.”

Hitler was offered power by a coalition of conservative parties, under the mistaken belief that they could control him.

The Nazis were actually losing support when Hindenburg offered Hitler the post of Chancellor (equivalent to British Prime Minister) in January 1933. Chancellors weren't elected, they were selected by the elected President under the condition that they pull together a ruling coalition in the Reichstag.

After the Reichstag fire Hitler and the Nazis, through the use of propaganda, intimidation and brute violence, pushed through the "Enabling Act" that granted Hitler extraordinary powers under a part of the Weimar constitution that was designed to be invoked only under emergency conditions. Hitler then used that act to outlaw all opposition and rig all future elections.

But Hitler never won a majority of German voters under anything like a free and fair election.

And I hope you and that part of me are right.

But I have Republican relatives. So-called" "reasonable" Republican relatives. They are still voting for Trump. They've cashed in their conscience.
