My son came home. Alive.

He served two tours in Iraq. Each time he came home....alive. I was joyful, thankful and relieved.

Those feelings are but a mere fraction in comparison to the pain mothers feel for their sons or daughters who didn't come home alive. And anyone who mocks these mothers doesn't deserve to be an American much less a candidate for the American Presidency. I am in awe of their resilience.

Shame doesn't exist in Trump's world.

I can't imagine the anxiety you suffered until they were home safe.

Mr. Khan has described his feelings so well.

Was early on in the war. He was flown in to Norfolk before being shipped overseas. We drove four hours to spend all of 20 minutes with him. My 20 yr old son acting manly and brave broke down when I told him Chelsea was in the car waiting to see him. Chelsea was our boarder collie. She grew up right next to him. He rushed with us to the parking garage to see her. When we opened the back end of the jeep, she shrieked in delight. And I watched my 20 yr old man/son turn into a little boy again.

And I wept once he boarded the bus away from me.

He has never suffered. He doesn't know the meaning of the word.

I really suck at posting and when I think I'm posting a response to another poster, I continually screw it up.

But I do appreciate the responses. Truly. I do.

Even being assured that I had survived, getting that telegram was devastating to my family. The same telegram went to both of my brothers, one of whom received it while he was on bunker guard in Vietnam...

I have nothing but contempt for Donald Trump, who has no empathy for Gold Star families and no understanding of their sacrifice.

And if you hadn't survived your serious injuries, your family would never have been the same.

One of my uncles died in WW2, and my grandparents and mother never got over it.

I am grateful but sorry for your sacrifice, pinboy3niner.

Going with the chaplains to the family to explain benefits and options following the combat death of their child or spouse.

Did some serious drinking that night. Imagine so did the padre.

Anyone who speak ill of any family who has gone through that I wouldn't even waste my spit on him.

I totally agree with your sentiments about what we need to look for in our leaders.
