Don't let that slip from your mind as we confront this. Trump's support is not from the poor, but from the upper half of the middle class.

there is not any evidence to support the OP, it is just pure speculation that is wrong.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Because none of them have yet: his supporters are middle class and upper middle class whites.
Until you show some proof, it is just unfounded speculation. And you know this.

Put a bunch of them in a room and watch Karl Marx's observation come true.
Sooner or later one will be at the top, everybody else will become a former bourgeoisie proletariat.
They will eventually turn on each other like a bunch of starving hyenas.

(13,871 posts)Not being confrontational, but can you offer some evidence. The only demographic I know of that Trump is winning is older white people (mostly men) with High School or less education. Last poll I saw had him even losing college educated white men.

(56,582 posts)A Trump supporter is more likely to have a college degree than a non-Trump supporter.
That can be (and in fact is) still true even if he is losing college educated voters.

(22,756 posts)my work has me traveling extensively throughout neighborhoods... the past 2 months I have worked in Ohio, New Mexico, Texas, Mississippi and I am currently in Brevard County, FL... there are A LOT of Trump yard sign and bumper stickers (relative to other candidates) out there!!
...some trump signs are in poorer areas but for the most part, I see the signs in middle and upper middle neighborhoods!!
I posted this earlier today; I was working in a solid middle income neighborhood...

(52,243 posts)with a few exceptions, including an unusual number of prominent politicians, republicans usually fall in line behind their nominee no matter what. this is true to a large extent even if they rather opposed that candidate during the primaries. this cycle is very unusual, especially for republicans, in that they're not entirely in lock-step at this point.
but for many of the rank-and-file, whether or not they care for or worry about trump as a person or candidate, he's their only choice as a republican now, and he gets their support for that reason along.
if their biggest issue is taxes, they'll see a republican as the key to lower taxes, as they've been brainwashed into thinking that that's the outcome (never mind thinking that's a good thing).
if their biggest issue is abortion, they'll figure a republican will be tougher on that issue
if their biggest issue is the supreme court or immigration or whatever, they'll side with the republican.
all this has little to do with anything trump has actually said on the matter. they'll look at hillary and see the (d) after her name; they'll look at trump and see the (r). they'll vote accordingly.
sadly, there are a lot of republicans out there who, even if they hate how bigoted trump is and even if they're scared of what he might do, they just can't bring themselves to vote for a democrat who might raise their taxes or whatever.

Poor white voters will vote for Trump over Clinton by an substantial margin.
College educated voters will vote for Clinton over Trump.

(3,569 posts)I being a 60 year old guy, hang out with a lot of guys my age, all successful, some Liberal and others not so much.
n my morning coffee group, The Trump supporter is a chiropractor, watches FOX exclusively for news, has no other news source. Invests and does well in stocks and real estate. It is like he is stuck at 1974. Even has an old school answering machine, a marantz stereo etc.
Then my bar group. all well to do with jobs that pay 200k to 250k a year. Their company sells computer systems to the government. All are vets (though ALL served in peacetime, and most are graduates of the Air Force Academy. They will vote T rump simply because they vote for an R. All gun freaks, god freaks and anti abortion. All couples the same. Little news. I did Ukraine with them the other day, and tied that to Syria and not one of them, of about ten, knew even the first thing about it.
Then there Jack, who is a lunatic. He is getting wackier by the second. "Atheists are running the country" he said the other day. Works for Aerojet. Good job, college educated, and the dumbest fucker I've ever met.
