CLEVELAND, Ohio Nina Turner, the Democratic former state senator from Cleveland who has emerged as a rallying figure for Bernie Sanders' disappointed supporters, said she is considering an offer to run for vice president on the Green Party's national ticket.
Massachusetts physician Jill Stein, the party's presumptive presidential nominee, reached out with the pitch, Turner told cleveland.com Sunday evening in a telephone interview.
The Green Party opens its convention Thursday in Houston. Turner would stand for nomination there if she agrees to be Stein's running mate. Her decision is expected in the coming days.

(2,542 posts)She's putting her name forth for Green Party VP? After using our convention for publicity stunt? Then she's no Democrat, and she can go to hell.

(2,542 posts)Where did you even get "you vote labels" out of my prior comment?
"she worked hard for party" NOT OUR PARTY, though. This thread is about her joining another non-Democratic Party ticket as a candidate.
And it doesn't count as "hard work" if you quit the millisecond that you don't get your way, which is what Nina Turner has done.
She's not a clown because I disagree with her. She's a clown because her actions are unserious and ridiculous. Give her some bendable balloons and she can work children's birthday parties.

(58,785 posts)Sanders won't even take or return their phone calls. And, btw, it seems he did not oppose the DNC's cancellation of Turner's speaking slot.
This step would likely cost Turner big if she every wanted to run as a Democrat again someday. Wouldn't quite call burning that bridge going to hell, but still.
Perhaps she's hoping former Sanders supporters migrating to the Green Party would become hers. The lineup on the GOP debate stages proves you don't have to win office to make a living out of running.

(2,542 posts)I have no complaints about Bernie Sanders' actions in regards to this topic. He's been completely above-board lately.
If Nina Turner wants to leave our party, that's her call. After hearing her hateful and uninformed cable news appearances during the primary, I'm almost sympathetic to the Greens. She's their problem now.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Turner -- and plenty of people in the party like her -- but if they want to rise to leadership they're going to have to face the reality that the party's many special interests average out to middlin' liberal and still include conservative blocs that also have to be considered.
I haven't paid enough attention to her to know just what she's really so unhappy about, but I'm a little bemused about why she would consider moving to the Greens when she is so committed to minority issues. In this era the Democratic Party is becoming the minority power party. So she was criticized by white and black Dems for supporting Sanders. Self-exile to Green-wackyland for that?

Mahr finally seemed like he was sick of him because he's got a big mouth and he always tries to dominate the conversation when he's on that show. He doesn't give anyone else a chance to speak. He's been berating Obama every since he was elected and I'm sick of it.

She's a republican, she just hasn't realized it yet.
Edit and update with videos.
Here she is on April 3rd, 3 minutes in, talking favorably towards John Kasich.

Nina's been on my last nerve this election cycle , but I thought she was firmly against John Kasich and his anti-choice record?
I remember her wearing that pink "Get out of my panties" tee on many occasions earlier this year which was protesting Kasich's anti-choice record.
Did she change her mind or what?

(7,906 posts)I'm still looking for the video clip.
She trashed Hillary up and down over nonsense like the emails and then went on to sing the praises of Kasich.
When she was asked about his defunding of Planned Parenthood, she blew it off and said that she respects his decision even if she doesn't agree with it. She went on and on about how much she respected him, and that sometimes "friends" don't see eye to eye. It was revolting.

(6,592 posts)No, Nader did not hand W the election.
But we are, for better or worse, a *two* party system. (Yeah, I'd like that changed - well, we were the prototype, and prototypes have their issues..)
Anybody who does anything to shift this election to Trump, or even has the appearance of doing so, has my deepest scorn.
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)If he had not run, Gore would have beaten Bush. My opinion. And I don't respect people who think otherwise after reviewing the facts. Thinking Nader wasn't a spoiler is the equivalent of believing Trump sacrificed a lot.
SusanCalvin
(6,592 posts)Nader didn't help, but he wasn't the nail in the coffin.
You "don't respect *people* who...."? Meaning me, I am forced to assume...? Ooooookaaaaay..... (Just idly wondering if I have some history with you I am not aware of, or if you just generally operate like that.)
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)He put together a coalition that had the potential to win. Nader acted as a spoiler and took enough votes for himself that Bush's voter role purge was effective.
I have no respect for Nader or people who minimize his deliberate acts to teach Democrats a lesson for not being, in Nader's case, Stalinist enough. I don't know if that is you. If you think Nader had no effect and wrote what you did to excuse him in any way, then it's you. But I don't know your motives. Nader was experienced, educated and smart enough to know exactly what he was doing: acting as a spoiler to keep the Democrats from getting a majority by drawing off votes in close states. He was a spoiler and intended to be a spoiler. And it got us eight years of George W. Bush.
Nader said he was running because there was no difference between Democrats and Republicans. Bullshit. He wasn't that stupid and naive.
He is a nasty, selfish man. Jill Stein is at least far too stupid to know that she working every day to try to siphon away votes to throw some states to Trump. Nader was far too smart to not know he was doing exactly that.

It's sad to see her go this way because she will accomplish nothing by joining with the Green party. Her goal seems to raise her name recognition and popularity, but I hope she realizes there really isn't any coming back from this type of decision.
