Political Wire's Quote of the Day -- From Lindsey Graham

“There used to be some things that were sacred in American politics, that you don’t do, like criticizing the parents of a fallen soldier, even if they criticize you. If you’re going to be leader of the free world, you have to be able to accept criticism, and Mr. Trump can’t.”

— Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), quoted by the New York Times, adding that “unacceptable” doesn’t even begin to describe Donald Trump’s behavior.

Dude is overestimating the bigotry in America and has built his campaign on it. Americans are better than that. I hope.

the mouth-breathing red meat angry white men. However, I think even moderate Republicans are aghast at comments like these from Trump. My guess is that at least a few of them will stay home/not vote this time around. Maybe not many, but even 1% of them can make a difference.

"It is time for Donald Trump to set the example for our country and the future of the Republican Party," McCain said. "While our Party has bestowed upon him the nomination, it is not accompanied by unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us.

"Lastly, I'd like to say to Mr. and Mrs. Khan: thank you for immigrating to America. We're a better country because of you. And you are certainly right; your son was the best of America, and the memory of his sacrifice will make us a better nation -- and he will never be forgotten."

So, will you now put your mouth where your mouth is?

at the beginning of the Republican primary, what's left?

There's something going on here that has nothing to do with "America," respect and traditional politics.

We better be as absolutely crazy for our candidate as the Republicans are for theirs!

You fucking coward. Condemn the positions Trump takes. Fine. Condemn the man. That's fine, too.

But you are a fucking coward if you then go and vote for him. Sure, your vote is private. But you are a public person and a party faithful. If you're going to vote R regardless of Trump's vile statements, then you are nothing but a fucking coward. Like McCain. Like that former Bush staffer in Florida.

The spectacle of one Republican after another being forced to repudiate their own party's nominee in the name of having even a shred of respectability? In the name of "supporting our troops?"

After years of faux outrage over Democrats purportedly not honoring the sacrifices of our military, we see what that really looks like straight from the lips of their own presidential candidate. May this end once and for all the unearned reputation the Republicans have in some quarters as uniquely patriotic and true in their support of men and women in military service!
