2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGive me a break! Trump says he's been the victim of a "vicious attack"?
This is the party that led a four day hate-fest against Hillary Clinton, accusing her of everything from corruption to murder to actually consorting with the devil. Where the rallying cry was "Jail her now!" (And you know that secretly they probably wanted that to be "Burn the Witch!" .
This is the candidate whose stock in trade is name calling and vicious personal attacks. "Crooked Hillary." "Lyin' Ted Cruz." Who called Cruz's wife ugly and his father an assassin. Who routinely calls women "pigs" "fat" ugly."
A man whose main claim to fame is a TV show in which the attraction is public humiliation: "You're fired!"
But now we're supposed to throw a pity party because he says he was "viciously attacked" by someone "who has never met me"?
Let us remember the fact that this "attack" came from the grieving parents of a brave patriot who died to save the men under his command. Parents who practice a faith, as did their son, that is routinely vilified by Donald Trump and his supporters. Let us remember too that this "vicious attack" came after Trump has spent a year attacking Mexicans as rapists and criminals. That he went after a highly respected federal judge, impugning his integrity simply because this judge had the temerity to allow the victims of "Trump University" their day in court. That he mocked the disability of a journalist who dared to be critical, made crude and sexist comments about another for asking what he regarded to be a "hostile" question.
And now Donald Trump is whining about being "attacked!"
This, THIS is the man who tells us he's tough enough to take on ISIS, tough enough to navigate through a dangerous world in which the stakes are quite literally life and death for untold thousands? This is the man who says he and he alone can lead this nation?
"Thin-skinned" isn't the word for it "Hypocritical" is far too gentle to describe the lack of insight, the lack of simple empathy for others, in someone so narcissistic as to believe he's entitled to be critical of others in the most vicious and hurtful terms, but that others then "have no right" to hold him at all accountable, to respond in any way to his vitriol and abuse.
How so many Americans can see this coward and bully as the solution to anything is beyond me. But the fact that he has come this far is truly frightening.
He needs to be defeated, and defeated soundly. So soundly that it will be decades before any major American party resorts to such blatant racism, sexism, xenophobia and ableism as a viable political strategy. Before any candidate comes before the public touting cruelty as his platform and inhumanity as his virtue.
People, we HAVE to do this. This man simply cannot be allowed anywhere near the levers of political power.

Contrast that, for a moment with Michelle Obama "When they go low, we go high."

(25,249 posts)don't confront Trump with what you've just said and see what his reaction is to that. They have to be relentless and keep on him - but - most times they ask him a question - let him answer - and don't do any follow-up. They need to do follow-up questions and keep him from obfuscating everything that they throw at him.
Finally back this guy into a corner.

(1,156 posts)We have got to make sure Don the Con is thoroughly beaten down along with his lackeys. The total lack of empathy and class displayed by this shyster and his minions is breathtaking. And for those high and mightly 'Bernie or Bust' gadflies, it is time to get over yourselves. Supporting Jill Stein or any of the other 'alternative' progressive faux candidates is a complete waste of valuable votes to keep this megalomaniac out of the Oval Office. My vote is with Clinton/Kaine all the way.
