2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhere Is The Democrat With Enough Balls To Say All Republicans Are Idiots?
I am serious.
Name one thing the Republican Party truly stands for that is not evil, or idiotic.
Go ahead.
Climate change denial. Tax cuts for billionaires. Cutting food stamps for hungry children. Repealing not improving Obamacare. The list goes on all the way to hell.
I know the entire Republican Party consists of Fox News watching zombies. Where is the Democrat with enough balls to say "The Entire Republican Party Is Fox News Viewing Imbeciles Living In A Fantasy World" or something like that.
We lose because we are afraid to tell the truth.
I am tired of losing to imbeciles.

(26,507 posts)I have a neighbor also that says he won't vote for Trump and I can't for the life of me understand why he is a Repug nor can he logically explain it. Yet he listens to all the RW talking heads on the radio - Rush, Hannity, etc.
When you confront them with all the Repug indefensible stances that they have - they say they don't agree with them - but still remain a Repug.

(151,540 posts)We need to win this election by a huge margin and retake control of the Senate, as well as gaining ground in the House. That will require getting some Republicans to switch parties in November and vote for Democrats. We want those votes. We won't get them by attacking Republican voters.
Instead, we need to attack Republican candidates, not Republican voters. We're doing that. Nothing is gained by alienating potential voters. Nothing at all.

(7,018 posts)each time the Republicans do something like making the rich still richer, and the poor still
poorer - even to the point of increasing the numbers of unnecessary deaths among the
latter.
Obama rarely did. Too much of a gentleman? Sanders and Warren have already done so.
This helped to cause people to flock to them. They would have done more of it as presidents.
Would Clinton hammer in this point as president? It certainly would help to keep the
Republican masses better informed. The Republicans control 90% of the news media, as
we all know. They certainly try their best to hide this point.
Democrats don't have the above advantage. We need a president who speaks out more
openly about it.

(12,046 posts)You've got Trump running their party and he already alienates them himself. We will take any votes we can get. Aside from the presidential race though saying what you are saying is just like the BS the teaparty does and then government shuts down. Believe it or not about 40% +/- of the country does not think like you or I. In order to get anything accomplished for the issues and the people we care about our democratic politicians will have to work with the other side. Burning every bridge and calling them all idiots is completely counter productive.

(41,198 posts)I think most Republicans have an empathy deficit (very often severe), but that doesn't make them idiots. Just as people with superior powers of empathy are capable of saying and doing stupid things themselves.

(7,911 posts)In other words, answering one blanket, bigotted condemnation with another is not a very adult way to behave. I don't think any Democrat should sink to Trump's low level.
A statement like "All Republicans are..." is no different from statements like "All blacks are...", "All Muslims are...", "All liberals are...", "All Mexicans are...", "All Southerners are...", ... etc. It's just plain wrong.

Period.
Even the cute ones, and the ones that pretend to have reason.
The party itself is evil.
Are there any good Nazis, or Klansmen?
Understand?
Binkie The Clown
(7,911 posts)My 94-year old mother is a Republican and she is neither and idiot nor a traitor. When she thinks "Republican" she thinks Eisenhower. His ideals are her ideals, and she sees today's party through that idealistic lens. So beyond labels like "idiot" or "traitor" you have a large number of people who are not as attentive to politics as we are. So we might also add such labels as "inattentive", "apathetic or uninterested", "brainwashed" (and no, you needn't be an idiot or a traitor to be brainwashed), "stuck in an obsolete tradition". And to top things off, her view of Democrats is the result of a seriously traumatic incident at the hands of Democrats (in the form of union thugs) when she was a teenager in the late 1930s. Did you take things like that into account?
Painting things a "simple", and "black and white" is a big mistake. We can't stop the Republicans from making that mistake, but we should not make the same mistake ourselves. Things are always more nuanced than people like Trump make them out to be. Don't put yourself in that category. It's bad company to keep.

(5,969 posts)Right now, Trump has created a train wreck and his advisors keep sending more trains. More and more get disgusted with what they see, hopefully. There is no need to give them a reason to find common ground and make it a Dem vs Repub competition. This should be about common decency vs cruel and disgusting behaviour.
