(8,756 posts)Less than half of self-identified Republicans are 'rah-rah' for Trump and his antics. Most of them are physically ill by Trump. He has no coat tails and is depressing the Republican base of voters. The more he flings his poo, the further away he gets from the Oval Office. Middle America, independents in particular, are sprinting away from the GOP. I know a lot of Republicans who are voting for Gary Johnson this year.

We just need to help Hillary get her positive message out.
Hillary's the capable one. And Trump, well, he's doing an
impressive job of auto-destructing.

(58,785 posts)It's not deliberate. Trump literally doesn't know why he offends, or that he will, until the feedback comes and he finds that, for some unfathomable reason, he's not admired for them.
Remember the "hit them so hard" rant? He actually described one of his would-be handlers trying to soothe him back under some semblance of control by appealing to his vanity, with absolutely no idea that that was what was happening. "Don't hit down" -- in reference to a man, Bloomberg, Trump's almost certainly been extremely jealous of for decades. A fellow NYer, Bloomberg's far wealthier and has the social position and leadership Trump's always been denied.

I have absolutely no problem with the convention ending and this immediately being the biggest story. The convention was extremely positive, and then immediately segued into Trump attacking a heroic, dignified American military family over and over again. The difference is striking, and the polls are reflecting that.
