The grocery store, a Vietnam Veteran and Donald Trump

The Vietnam Veteran approached me as I was standing in line at a Vermont Mom and Pop grocery store. Once I saw his cap I shook his hand, thanked him for his service, and listened as he told me how much he had liked my recently-deceased partner, another Vietnam Vet. Tears came as I heard the "really good guy" part. We hugged, he patted my back, and apologized for making me cry. I told him the tears were always there....ready to roll....as I worked through this awful loss where Agent Orange claimed another really good guy.

This vet told me that he was also dying from the results of Agent Orange and didn`t have much time left because his lungs were functioning at only 30% the normal capacity. He looked down at the floor while he regained his composure. Another hug, some more tears. He said he never thought much about taking time off and doing something fun, but the doctors had convinced him to do just that....while he could. I made him promise he would start today. He said he probably wouldn`t see his next birthday. My vet`s birthday was a few days ago. There was no celebration, no birthday cake, just a folded-up American flag and a white candle.

I`m astounded by the number of Vietnam Vets (in a 30-mile radius) who suffer from or who have died from exposure to Agent Orange. I`m humbled by their courage and their sacrifice.

Donald Trump says he, too, has sacrificed, by creating jobs and building buildings. I bet he can even see Russia from the Trump Tower.

In the words of retired Rear Admiral John Huston, Donald Trump is "not fit to polish John McCain`s boots"....nor is he fit to comment on sacrifice. And for all the Republicans who lack the courage to flat-out withdraw their support for and endorsement of this national embarrassment, this national disgrace....SHAME ON YOU!

My twin-cousin (born two weeks apart) died this spring just before his 67th birthday. He was a caring teacher, animal loving rancher, and a lifelong best of best friend. He died from Agent Orange exposure. I remember him sitting on my bed one night after he came home and crying helplessly because he had been drenched with it during his tour in Viet Nam. I'm sorry for you and your partner, and for the vet you met at the store.

Donald Trump is not fit to mention the name of heroes. A national disgrace indeed.

Agent Orange, to carpet bombing, to civilian massacres.

It was like the Iraq debacle, but 20x bigger... much more US death.

I do not mean to detract from the men who served. It was just a totally fucked up situation. FUBAR.

The generation who came after that war has so little idea of what it was about.

we've had a similar experience, but you said it best. Do you mind?

My husband has had all his agent orange tests and, so far, so good. We are so lucky.

He has been hanging out at the VFW hall since the Reagan Error, where he became brain-washed. I think the Agent Orange has affected his brain, too. All he does is spew right-wing bullshit to the point where my sisters and I want nothing to do with him. My late mother is his sister. She would always tell him that their father would be horrified if he knew what his son turned into. Grandpa was a staunch FDR Democrat. I have to wonder if this Trump shit has my uncle changing his tune. Unfortunately, probably not.

Drumpf is such trash. He exemplifies everything that is wrong with capitalism. A coward, a cheat, and a selfish, conceited ass hole with thin skin and little hands.

I'm a little younger than most Viet Nam era kiddos, but not by much. I remember well the boys that were my older sisters ages and who went off to war and either didn't come back, or else came back and were never quite the same.

I'm so sorry for your loss. For all of the loses. For all of the suffering. I stand in awe of the bravery, of the sacrifice and the honor.

Trump is just a scumbag. Trash. Dirt. Pond scum. Yes. Shame on him!

Frankly I don't know how he'd have voted in this election. I'd like to think he wouldn't vote for Trump but I can't say for sure.

But I'm impressed at how I, the oddball liberal in a conservative Southern family, raised as a military brat, felt both immediate empathy for the Khans and a desire to sit up very straight at General Allen.

Donald Trump can bite my bleeding heart liberal ex-military father-sacrificing Hillary-loving bodacious ass.
