PHOENIX It has been two decades since Arizonas red-state status was in doubt in a presidential election. But that was before Donald Trump and his build-a-border-wall platform won the GOP primary and inflamed anti-Republican sentiment among Latino voters.
Trumps campaign is dispatching vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence to the state for two public events, a tangible sign of Republicans concern that Arizona could be competitive this year while local Democrats, thinking along the same lines, are intensely lobbying Hillary Clintons campaign and national Democratic groups for the resources to help make it happen.

(4,516 posts)We have two nearly indestructible Republican blocs here; the Sun-City vote, and the Mormon vote. They're not huge, but they're a consistent couple of percentage points at the ballot box, and that's what regularly skews us to the right.
If we really get out the Democratic vote this time, and we get enough apathy and crossovers, we could do it.

Gee maybe a serial adulterer with 5 children from 3 wives who cheats people out of their money and disrespects the military isn't particularly attractive to them?

(4,311 posts)Johnson has very high numbers in Utah. And in the case of AZ (and UT), Johnson votes are DEFINITELY coming out of Trump's total.

(4,516 posts)we have a chance, but it will be up to us AZ Democrats to get out and vote, which, historically, we don't do very well.

(172,212 posts)I happened to briefly flick to MSNBC last night when Chris Hayes had Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) on and Flake was calmly trashing Trump and said he not only refuses to endorse him but refuses to vote for him. So between him and McCain, AZ is toss-uppy. Turnout might make it pinkish but I don't think it's ready to flip yet like NV and CO did.
