The next time he is in an interview scenario - one on one with a media interviewer or at a Press Conference - which I think his campaign will keep to a minimum now as they don't want him going off the track and lying - the media people need to ask him questions related to the statistics that he spouted off in this speech.

The fact that he read this speech - I don't believe that he will be able to defend those statistics and they will get him off guard and he'll start spouting jibberish again.

1. The media do not want to make Trump look bad (at least not too much)

There is an entire industry (TV, papers, pollsters, advisers, pundits) who depends on this race looking somewhat credible.

This is why they try to look Hillary look bad even on ridiculous things. This is also why they insist so much on this pivot thing, even if it is so clear Trump is uncomfortable with it (it probably be over in a week because he clearly does not like it).

2. The media isn't gong to do anything extra to make Trump look bad

Actually they are covering for him. His numbers should be in the single digits, but the media keeps him on the air and bashing Hillary for him so he can stay viable.

If it were not for the media coverage, he might not even have enough percentage at the time of debates to be on stage.
