"We're running a unique campaign in the sense that we can draw 15,000 people together at a time," said Karen Giorno, Florida-based senior adviser on the Trump campaign. "There are over 40,000 people that we've touched in the last two weeks with just four events. . . . We have a movement. Hillary Clinton is struggling to get people moving in her direction."
As anxious party leaders await a more conventional Florida campaign apparatus by Trump field offices, paid organizers and TV ads that Giorno says are coming soon the Clinton campaign is methodically building a massive get-out-the-vote effort.
Clinton and her Democratic allies have spent nearly $22 million on TV ads in Florida, according to an NBC News tally. Trump allies have spent less than $1.6 million.

(8,038 posts)They're so state of the art campaigning--if you're William Jennings Bryan.
They've touched "40,00 people" in "two weeks!"
In a state with how many millions of voters?

(35,693 posts)It worked once, in 1948. And ever since then, politicians look out and see the enthusiastic crowds and think that they are Harry Truman. But there was only one Harry Truman and only one Tom Dewey, probably one of the most incompetent major party presidential candidates until Donald Trump.

(56,828 posts)I responded by saying that we can get Bruce Springsteen to play nearby and fill an 80,000 seat football stadium. Should he run for president, too, just because he can draw crowds 4x and 5x bigger than Trump?

That takes work on the ground.

She's benefiting not only from her own experience in 2008, but also from those who worked for the Obama Team in 2008 and 2012! If only, ALL Dems had been so intelligent in 2010 and 2014, instead of running AWAY from Prez O.

Getting a bunch of people in a stadium or some other venue is nice, but you're still only talking to a tiny minority of voters. And those who attend are almost always already on your side. You're convincing nobody.
Advertising talks to many more voters. Most people, the vast majority, have never been to a political rally and never will attend one. Rallies are overrated as a campaign strategy.

(93 posts)Most of them are retired. Why not go to a rally?

(146,255 posts)He gets some young guys at his rallies, too. Most look like the pickup/confederate battle flag types. They probably aren't even registered to vote, and couldn't figure out how to become registered voters.
