him to go down with the ship?

Trump is 70 and could go hang out with Dirty Harry, but I assume Pence would be looking for work.

reelection itself being something of a roll of the dice of course. Virtually everyone else refused the VP slot, only badly damaged goods available and a strange person also with political problems.

I'm wondering why Pence would drop out shortly after making that huge decision. though--unless God sent Pence new signs signaling He'd changed His mind, of course. (?)

Supporting your idea, he's pretty much killed himself in Indiana politics, so possibly he might see a good job offer from the business sector as a sign from the god who takes care of him. Certainly Trump will give him no end of excuses he could style as highly principled reasons to bail.

4. Pence left Leadership in the House, to run for Gov.

Because Indiana tends to look towards centrist governors (at least on the social conservative scale), he toned down his evangelicalpolitics and reassured folks he wasn't really just trying to position himself for a run at the presidency. Hahahaha - that didn't last long.

He took several hard right turns - getting away with the first one without repercussions (a following act to Scott Walkers efforts to emasculate public unions) - he started getting serious push back from businesses and voters. He was heading into a very tough reelection. There is no political second act for him here in Indiana. Folks were already skeptical of his commitment to serving rather than running.

So what does attempting to salvage his political ambitions mean for Pence? What is life post election loss? How is that different than life post election quitting? I honestly don't know whether he can stick it out, or whether Trump will tire of him (scandalous that he is going to release his tax returns... and make Trump look even worse). I am sure he can't fathom it yet, but he is about to join the other has-runs - who keep popping back up as if maybe this time they will catch on with the voters: Santorum, Huckabee, and other sad sacks.

start online sites to shill for shady businesses, and make a bundle writing RW books and hitting the RW lecture circuit.

Pence had no *real* political future to lose, so this run helps him become a national figure.

Palin, Gingrich, Cain, Carson seem to be in the grift category.

Santorum, Perry, Huckabee - I think started out in the second category but the latter two (not sure what Santorum is doing) have moved into the latter category.

I think Pence really thought he had a shot when he left congress - and that was the reason for leaving congress. He started out a radio show host - bet he goes back to that path. We will see how close to grifting ala Huckabee that he goes.

You don't want to be blamed for Trump's defeat, and the realigning of the Supreme Court if you want to have a future in politics. Pence is playing the good soldier while letting Trump self-destruct and tank the ticket. If he loses, the root cause will be Trump. That won't be the case if it looks like Pence left him in the lurch. This is partially why McConnell, Ryan, and the RNC haven't cut him loose yet (October). Trump represents a significant part of their base and they don't want to appear to be a cause of his defeat.

Did I hear Pence say if he and his family walked into a restaurant and they had gay staff the family would never return?

How can he be sure that he would know when any employee is gay? What if the chef is gay or other staff that work only in the kitchen?

I had a friend in high school that who had the look of a stereotypical gay man. He is married to a model and has 6 children. No one ever called him names. He came to a reunion and a spouse of a schoolmate said something crass. We jumped all over him, even his wife did.

First off - there is nothing wrong with being who you are and secondly debasing someone on looks or stereotypes is wrong.

My school system also said the ORIGINAL pledge and not the bastardized, cold war version we see today.

I asked a Log Cabin Republican why he would associate with an organization that does not see him as a person. He told me that two gay men are more likely to be wealthy and so money over dignity.

The second half of my parents' adult lives -- post divorce -- was happier than the first.

If my father had felt comfortable being who he was, they'd have never gotten married or had any kids together. But that was a different era. My elderly mother is a strong believer in marriage equality -- so that other spouses don't end up in her position.

he is a 100 percent con believer, but he isn't stupid overall.

He was a talk radio guy who got into congress and got into the governor's office.

As some have noted, he knew he was in a tough run to win re-election so he had little to lose.

I think his personal views are abhorrent, but he handled himself VERY well, IMO.

IMO, if he continues to be the good soldier and holds up well, he will be viewed as a winner coming out of this, and it may not be electoral, but he will get rewarded. The whole thing is a money making scheme conning the dolts Trump is conning, there are a LOT of other options for someone like him to make a LOT of money in that cesspool.
