There is almost no "free stuff". Try to find it sometime. I have tried to find it for others with very little luck. If there was lots of free stuff, I would not have needed to feed the homeless on my own dime for the last 20 years, they would have all that "free stuff" to eat.

Even the most destitute, when mentally capable, will jump to take any work at all. I see it every day. Laura, try lining up at the labor pool at 5am in hopes of a few hours of crap work for minimum wage sometime. Yes, Laura, there is a line there every damn day and if you don't get there early you might not even get that work. If there was all this "free stuff" these lines would not exist, no one takes that sort of abuse when they have other options. They do it because the "free stuff" does not really exist.
