2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI would like to like to just say I think this is a bad idea
Many articles out today suggesting Mittens for cabinet posts. You know, hopeful republicans saying Mitsy has alot of offer. He is a man who insulted 47% of the country, ran a race baiting campaign where he didn't stop surrogates from pushing birther nonsense, didn't stop republican governors and sec. of states from trying to suppress the african american votes, in other words, he lacked character, on top of the dishonest campaign he ran, so I think he should he should be put out to pasture never to be heard from again. His kind of advice the President doesn't need!

(53,041 posts)What would he do anyway? He offered no new ideas during the campaign. He just rehashed tired old ideas from Bush. I can't see how Romney could possibly be of any use.

(4,340 posts)But in general, they've all had at least a shred of competence. That alone disqualifies Romney.
Don't worry about it. It's not going to happen.

(36,437 posts)Gimme a break. He said, in a conciliatory gesture, that he'd sit down with the guy. How they extrapolate that into "Cabinet Post" is yet another great mystery of MSM Punditry. Obama actively dislikes Romney, and everybody knows it. It's a nonstarter from git.

(1,035 posts)I never thought PBO would ask Hilary Clinton to be his SOS. One of the President's admirable qualities is to think 12 steps ahead. I still doubt the President would extend a cabinet post to the former governor. I do think strategically it's not out of the realm of possibility that the President would make overtures to Republicans he thinks he can work with like Senators Lugar and Snowe. It would provide cover for the endless calls from the right about the President being unwilling to work with the Republicans. A delicious irony might be to give Romney some "unappointed Czar" position in his administration. Nothing with any real policy influence mind you. Just a window dressing kind of position.
Obama couldn't believe anything he ever told him.

(320 posts)Seriously though, Mitt Romney is damaged goods now. He means nothing to the GOP, and his appointment to the cabinet will not win any converts from the other camp. Meanwhile, Democrats and liberals will see this as a cloying and pointless pander to nobody.
Besides, Romney's a terrible politician with no leadership skills.

(5,436 posts)One of the open "secrets" about the relationship between Obama & Flip-Flopper is that Obama detests Etch-A-Sketch on a personal level. And it's well known that Tax Cheater hates Obama, so there's that.
So, it's not gonna happen!

Also, Mitt isn't ever going to accept a job where he would be working 'for' President Obama.

(345 posts)that the president should meet with him regarding ideas for the upcoming "fiscal cliff" talks. Why? At this point he has no status.
He's not an elected official (unlike his running mate) and with this loss, he's not even the head of his party.
