Staffers working for the Romney 2012 campaign got a sudden and unwelcome lesson in fiscal conservatism Tuesday night and Wednesday morning when they tried to check out of hotel rooms or travel home. According to NBCs First Read blog, campaign workers were left to pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they found that all the credit cards issued by Romney/Ryan 2012 were canceled as soon as the nominee finished his concession speech.
From the moment Mitt Romney stepped off stage Tuesday night, having just delivered a brief concession speech he wrote only that evening, the massive infrastructure surrounding his campaign quickly began to disassemble itself, wrote NBCs Garrett Haake. Aides taking cabs home late that night got rude awakenings when they found the credit cards linked to the campaign no longer worked.
Forbes magazine explained that this is not normal protocol for political campaigns.

And don't bother filing that last expense report.

(3,697 posts)Were hotel or airline charges declined? I wonder since this is not a bigger story with ex-aides coming forward and talking openly on the record about their experiences. Employers do not typically provide local transportation to the workplace so it's odd that they are only identifying taxi charges as an issue.

BOSTON -- From the moment Mitt Romney stepped off stage Tuesday night, having just delivered a brief concession speech he wrote only that evening, the massive infrastructure surrounding his campaign quickly began to disassemble itself.

"Fiscally conservative," sighed one aide the next day.

The only mention of hotels is the last line:
"In the meantime, lots of Marriott points will be cashed in."
Bad Thoughts
(2,525 posts)I find it hard to believe he would have immediately called the credit card companies to stop the cards. It's likely that the cancellations were pre-planned, and that Romney always intended to leave his staffers high and dry.

(27,622 posts)Now all those leftover donations will be laundered in Mitt's Swiss bank account, through the Cayman Islands, and on to the Mormon Church. There the money will be set up to pay Mitt and his family 10 million dollars a day for missionary work in Paris - tax exempt, non'tcha know, because it's God's work. And France is a dangerous place to be.
