As long as they play the follow-up right, Hillary's "deplorables" comment was BRILLIANT.

* The "deplorables" comment fits right into the narrative she laid out in her Reno speech a few weeks ago that Trump has on his team people from the alt right and many supporters who are leaders in the alt right.

* It asks moderates, "Do you really want to be lumped in with these hate mongers? Do you really want to be part of Trump's base that thinks like this?"

* It brings the issues of hate, racism, xenophobia, and misogyny in America and in the Trump campaign front and center.

* It puts Trump and his deplorables on the defensive. They will just amplify their hate proving her very point.

* It makes her look strong and principled to Democrats, Progressives, and anyone else put off by Trump's hate and his hate-filled base.
It plays VERY WELL with the base. She had the guts to GO THERE and CALL THEM OUT!

* She was careful to limit her comments only to a segment of his base. These slimebags would never vote for her anyhow.

****** The one thing she and her team MUST do is stick this comment to the narrative that TRUMP PLAYS TO THIS KIND OF HATE just as she did with the Reno speech. IT IS AN EXTENSION OF HER NARRATIVE IN THAT SPEECH.********

1. Totally agree. She needs to stand her ground.

And every time they whine about it, point out all the white supremacists who have publicly supported Trump. Make him OWN his base.

37. It's incendiary enough to be talked about for some while,

hopefully long enough for some to start thinking about what group they're in. Right now, of course, the right and most of the media are only reporting the "deplorables" part, and it'll take a bit for her message about the rest, that there IS a rest, to diffuse.

3. Expose ths hypocrisy of the anti-"safe space"/not PC crowd now with this

She seriously should run with this angle. Use the poll numbers. Make ads with the videos. Tie Republicans to this crowd, something I think is a huge mistake

Call them crybabies, whiners, etc.

Shame them into submission.

Racist, Bigoted, Homophobic, White Supremacist, Misogynistic,
Gun Toting, Fear Mongering, Conspiracy Theory Believing,
Evolution and Global Warming Denying Knuckleheads.
Clearly we see them all for what they are... and even if we don't,
you can be sure they will tell us with their small-minded hate spittle.

Well it was at a fund raiser.

I say keep on this message. Maybe not her or Kaine, unless asked, but through surrogates. Focus on that part of Trump's message and it will scare the hell out of anyone still sitting on the fence. My 2 cents.

9. The poll amoung dipshit supporters

Showing 62% of them think President Obama is muslim. With only 9% thinking he is christian is telling about his supporters.

Then the poll of his supporters are at 52% believing he wasn't born in the U.S.A. and 26% believe he was born here.

That pretty much makes the case for what she said. But having said that she will have media go after her with out checking or bringing up the polls on his voters. Hopefully the campaign can get those numbers out to the public. I'm hoping it will help the media feeding frenzy which has started.

In other words, 59% of Trump supporters are racist birthers. Yup, pretty much makes her case alright.

this seems to be deliberate, she says it in an interview, and it's provoking discussions on the nature of some Trump supporters. If the media needed a reason to play all the videos of them being terrible racists, they now have it.

Heck, she should do so anyway come to think of it.

I think (hope) a significant number of those who would vote for trump are just moderate but misguided folks brainwashed into being afraid of anything with a "D" attached to it.

Hopefully enough of them can be persuaded into not voting for the Tangerine Caligula to put this election safely away and out of the hands of our corporate overlords.

12. I loved her deplorable statement, it fits them perfectly

"Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said on Friday that half the supporters of her Republican rival Donald Trump belonged in a “basket of deplorables” of people who were racist, homophobic, sexist, xenophobic, or Islamophobic."

She needs to do many Ads on just that alone. Especially since Donald did his so-called speech to the Black and Hispanic community to make it appear that he was not any of those things. If they don't want to be considered in that category...this should be their wake-up call.

15. Agreed

In fact, she needs to double down with an ad incorporating the NYT unfiltered video of Trump supporters screaming violent racist crapola, attacking journalists at rallies, and shots of Dixified stars and.bars-ers pickups with Trump stickers and ending with white letters on black background, with the words "you are known by the company you keep."

16. Agreed. They need to stick to both aspects of what she said.

There are genuine "deplorables" and there are frightened, struggling people who are looking for a savior, misguided as it might be. Separating the two out and continuing to hammer that point home is key. She'll never get any support from the former but some people will want to identify (and do) with the latter and might feel somewhat seen.

My only worry would be the loss of people who are frightened by her "non-PC" tone. Of course the surrogates could use that too. "Oh NOW you're interested in a candidate being PC?"

is polling with about the same support as she is, roughly, so half meaning about 20 million Americans fit into her narrative? I don't think so, sure their are racists but not to the extreme that she is painting it, in fact they will argue racism in both sides of the aisle so to me this is not a smart move. Insult the candidate that is one thing, insult broad swaths of Americans, not good.

24. its not surprising to me

I can easily believe we have 20 million racists voters. We never made the post racial transition in the 60's. It is still there wrapped in a shroud of political correctness.

It became unpolite and unwise to be openly racist. Thus, republicans switched to dog wistle tactics to appeal to that segment of society.

What Trump has done is lift that veil. Bigots are now coming out in the open emboldened by Trump. Heck they even have a front row seat in his campaign.

What we hear uttered every day now by Trump or some surrogates would have been carreer ending a couple years ago. Instead it is now being part of the new conversation..

36. what poll?

If you're referring to the latest CNN poll, that was 17% of all non-white voters, not just African-Americans. Also:

1) That poll was an outlier.
2) African-American Trump supporters could fit into the second basket mentioned by Clinton.
3) There are African-American racists, like Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.

30. Look at the other half of her statement

And make sure others do to. She says that HALF of Trump's supporters are deplorable. And if the people you know fit her description, you're not going to flip them. But if they are NOT bigots, then you can point to her description of the other half, those who want change. And you can work on them.

"But the other basket -- and I know this because I see friends from all over America here ... but that other basket are people who feel that the government has left them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures -- they're just desperate for change. ... Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well."

What Hillary said is accurate. It is time to call them out for what they are, even if they are your family members. It is time to stop normalizing racism, sexism and homophobia. It should be shameful to be a Trump supporter. Supporting Trump means you support racism. It will make undecideds think twice before being lumped in with that lot.
