2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis is unprecedented. Do ANY of you remember EVER
recall seeing a headline in a major US newspaper write that a presidential candidate is lying?
The NYT not only did so today, but they fact checked all throughout the article and pointed out lie after lie. I am stunned in a very pleasant way. Sorry for the lack of a link, as I read a hard copy of the paper.
In any case, I want to get back to my paper, as I am enjoying it so much!

(15,800 posts)any presidential candidate effectively soliciting the murder of his opponent.
That he's gotten away with it TWICE is gut-churning.

(112 posts)to call for the assassination of anyone, especially a presidential candidate? What is the Secret Service doing about this, which will cause more work on their part.
It is extremely scary that he is allowed to get away with this once, let alone twice. Media seems to be saying it is OK. No one calling for an investigation into trump about these threats.

(49,001 posts)His campaign says the Secret Service did not "formally" speak to them.
It seems to me they used a careful choice of words.
I think it is about time they had a "formal" discussion with the candidate.

(7,004 posts)Donald Trumps Anything-Goes Campaign Sets an Alarming Political Precedent
Its frightening, said Vin Weber, a former Republican congressman from Minnesota. Our politics, because of him, is descending to the level of a third-world country. Theres just nothing beneath him. And I dont know why we would think he would change if he became president. Thats whats really scary.
Stephen Hess, who served in the Eisenhower and Nixon administrations, could not even contemplate the prospect of Mr. Trump as commander in chief.
Its incredibly depressing, Mr. Hess said of Mr. Trump. Hes the most profoundly ignorant man Ive ever seen at this level in terms of understanding the American presidency, and, even more troubling, he makes no effort to learn anything.

(61,694 posts)"hundreds of friends" lost on 9-11-01. Drump has never named one single person he's known that died from that attack. It's DEPLORABLE that he would use such a tragedy the way he has.

(10,030 posts)is absolutely correct, IMO.
I also loved O"Donnell's comments on the 1 inch lie about his height. Trump is both appalling and petty.

(19 posts)is on social media. So which is it... idiot box or here? I get the feeling that the idiot box, given that Jeb Bush and HRC have spent millions on it to no avail, are wondering if there is another way to get the message out. Do you think there is? Perhaps you should enlighten rather than give up.
