Why I'm Proudly Voting FOR Hillary Clinton, Not Just AGAINST Donald Trump

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/rjmedwed/i_m_proudly_voting_for_clinton_not_just_against_trump

I am so tired of seeing Trump news dominate on DU - just as it seems to elsewhere! Here's a sentiment I can get 100% behind.

Before we go any further I should tell you that no, I’m not affilliated with the Clinton campaign. Yes, I’ve worked on Democratic campaigns and will probably work on others in the future, but so far, they’ve all been local or statewide races.

This is all me, and I’ll say it again: I’m proudly voting for Hillary Clinton. She’s not just the best candidate for the job in relation to the other possibilities, she’s the best we’ve seen in a long time.

Right away, more than a few commentors on Facebook are going to start off by saying, “But Hillary wasn’t even for same-sex marriage until a couple of years ago and only because public opinion changed!” Seriously, wait a few hours after this gets posted and go check NCRM’s Facebook page. At least one person’s going to say this.

Here’s my response: So what? She’s there now. There are lots of folks who were involved in the fight, whether on the ground or at a policy level, who gladly take wins however we can get them.

So far the ads have mainly said "she's qualified-Trump's evil".

Both those things are true...but you're right, by themselves they aren't enough to get people's attention and hold it.

We need ads that actually remind people about our platform.

It's a great platform and the more we talk about it the more votes and higher turnout we'll get.

I have gotten very tired of every fundraising email being about how awful Trump is and never about positive things for Clinton. I get that unfortunately the doom and gloom works for fundraising, but I find it incredibly tedious. All of the 3 major candidates for the Democratic nomination had positive reasons to vote for them. Yes Trump is obviously trash, both as a candidate and as a human being, but I worry that alone isn't enough to make people vote for Clinton. It didn't work for Kerry in 2004.

I don't just want enough voter turnout to beat Trump, I want enough to take back the Senate and to at least put a solid dent in the Republican lead in the House.
