If her claims are even true (it's bad, illegal either way), then people who "owed them" put it into tax free entity. Then that was used for -- you know the story -- apparent bribes and personal expenditures.

Unbelievable.

knowingly aid him in this tax avoidance scheme? Like the McMahons, who donated $5 million to the foundation around the time that he had done some kind of appearance for them.

People are wondering, since the wrestling duo refused to speak with the WaPo reporter on the story last week. And the glorified ticket scalper, who's donated millions to his foundation, also wouldn't speak to him.

You couldn't make this up: A diligent investigative reporter find improper transactions in the Trump Fdn records.
Trump's spox defends/explains it by admitting to something that sounds like tax fraud, which is a crime. And which wouldn't actually make the Fdn spending any more kosher.

"Donald Trump Foundation doesn't have a lot of accountants and people on staff. They are a small operation." Something tells me that when that guy whose investigating the foundation gets inside those books, he's going to find that there's no there There in the Trump Foundation and the family being the ignoramuses that they are, either didn't bother to educate themselves on what a Foundation is and isn't or that they did, but didn't care, and thought that no one would ever know that he was spending the charity's money as if the money was his, because HE COULD. And if his EGO hadn't forced him to run for POTUS, no one would be the wiser.

Gosh I hop he ends up prosecuted behind this. The Trump children probably all have their own foundations as well. I know Eric Trump has mentioned his having his own foundation. Like Daddy, they probably all have one to 'launder' money through to evade paying taxes. I hope they all rot.

Although it's certainly possible that they did not look in great detail at checks being written to other charities, since those organizations are real.

Who's keeping track of the essentials, like donations, filing the required paperwork, auditing the books, etc.?

I'm on the board of an itty-bitty, teeny-tiny 501(c)3 organization. We don't have any accountants on staff (well, some of our members are retired accountants and they've occasionally volunteered their services when we need to prepare tax returns and other official paperwork), but our books are transparent and regularly audited - and this is an organization that in a good year shows a profit in the low thousands (like 2 or 3). We sometimes have problems getting donors to take receipts (we rarely get monetary donations of more than $10), but we offer them for both cash and goods. And when we need to, we pay our sales taxes on time. Now, I would suppose things might be more complicated for an organization the size of Trump's, but that's what CFOs are for (he does have one, right?)

I read the TPM piece. If this is the sort of advisor Trump picks for running a charitable foundation, deities help us if he gets anywhere near the Oval Office.

Are they really that stupid, or do they think the rest of us are stupid and will believe this?

If this were legal, we'd all set up a family foundation and have everyone pay us directly into the foundation--no taxes on any money received!

This is criminal. When I said it was a slush fund the other day, I was underestimating the extent of the scam.

So you get people to pay money owed to you into your 'charitable foundation' and avoid taxes. But you spend the money on personal expenses like settling lawsuits or maybe buying ugly pictures of yourself...tax-free money claimed as charitable contributions...no way that is legal. No wonder he won't release his taxes.

made years ago for $10.000. The Trumps used the foundation as their private ATM.

This is not complicated, it can be explained in simple terms that the public can understand. This is the exact thing, a rich man running a money laundering con, that pisses people off.

What is galling is the way Trump denigrates the Clinton Foundation and says that the Clintons used it to enrich themselves. What an example of projection.

If this is true, I hope he ends up in prison.
