Josh Marshall makes good points in this. The aide is around the trumps a lot ...

(865 posts)If her claims are even true (it's bad, illegal either way), then people who "owed them" put it into tax free entity. Then that was used for -- you know the story -- apparent bribes and personal expenditures.
Unbelievable.

(36,481 posts)I'm beginning to realize Trump, with his own skeletons in the closet, attempted to couch any mention of 'Foundations' from the dialog. Like most of his enterprises, he's failed miserably.

(17,438 posts)directly to him, did he pay taxes on it? Did he declare it as income? That person just admitted that Trump cheated on his taxes!!

(4,787 posts)knowingly aid him in this tax avoidance scheme? Like the McMahons, who donated $5 million to the foundation around the time that he had done some kind of appearance for them.
People are wondering, since the wrestling duo refused to speak with the WaPo reporter on the story last week. And the glorified ticket scalper, who's donated millions to his foundation, also wouldn't speak to him.
You couldn't make this up: A diligent investigative reporter find improper transactions in the Trump Fdn records.
Trump's spox defends/explains it by admitting to something that sounds like tax fraud, which is a crime. And which wouldn't actually make the Fdn spending any more kosher.

(3,335 posts)"Donald Trump Foundation doesn't have a lot of accountants and people on staff. They are a small operation." Something tells me that when that guy whose investigating the foundation gets inside those books, he's going to find that there's no there There in the Trump Foundation and the family being the ignoramuses that they are, either didn't bother to educate themselves on what a Foundation is and isn't or that they did, but didn't care, and thought that no one would ever know that he was spending the charity's money as if the money was his, because HE COULD. And if his EGO hadn't forced him to run for POTUS, no one would be the wiser.
Gosh I hop he ends up prosecuted behind this. The Trump children probably all have their own foundations as well. I know Eric Trump has mentioned his having his own foundation. Like Daddy, they probably all have one to 'launder' money through to evade paying taxes. I hope they all rot.

(28,795 posts)cog they pin this on, after stonewalling until they can't anymore
this is EXACTLY what they did over the plagiarizing
all those shills were over the top obnoxious in their ABSOLUTE denials of the plage
THEN, the about face, the insistence of dropping it, which the msm did IMMEDIATELY
this is exactly what will happen with this story, if it even gets that far
also, speaking of the plage.....I read the melanoma thing somewhere else

(4,787 posts)a Nassau Cty, NY based CPA firm. They should understand the rules regarding private foundations, and the rest of those pesky IRS regulations.
Although it's certainly possible that they did not look in great detail at checks being written to other charities, since those organizations are real.

(10,165 posts)Who's keeping track of the essentials, like donations, filing the required paperwork, auditing the books, etc.?
I'm on the board of an itty-bitty, teeny-tiny 501(c)3 organization. We don't have any accountants on staff (well, some of our members are retired accountants and they've occasionally volunteered their services when we need to prepare tax returns and other official paperwork), but our books are transparent and regularly audited - and this is an organization that in a good year shows a profit in the low thousands (like 2 or 3). We sometimes have problems getting donors to take receipts (we rarely get monetary donations of more than $10), but we offer them for both cash and goods. And when we need to, we pay our sales taxes on time. Now, I would suppose things might be more complicated for an organization the size of Trump's, but that's what CFOs are for (he does have one, right?)
I read the TPM piece. If this is the sort of advisor Trump picks for running a charitable foundation, deities help us if he gets anywhere near the Oval Office.

(18,402 posts)Are they really that stupid, or do they think the rest of us are stupid and will believe this?
If this were legal, we'd all set up a family foundation and have everyone pay us directly into the foundation--no taxes on any money received!
This is criminal. When I said it was a slush fund the other day, I was underestimating the extent of the scam.
Sunny05
(865 posts)Narcissists could be so arrogant that they stupidly think they could do whatever they want OR so arrogant to think the rest of us are actually more stupid than they are.
LMAO over the latter.
Demsrule86
(68,733 posts)So you get people to pay money owed to you into your 'charitable foundation' and avoid taxes. But you spend the money on personal expenses like settling lawsuits or maybe buying ugly pictures of yourself...tax-free money claimed as charitable contributions...no way that is legal. No wonder he won't release his taxes.

(5,624 posts)what is in those taxes?
No wonder he's audited all the time. Why has noone uncovered this before. Hope they Al Capone him fast!

(5,624 posts)he's been scamming Uncle of income that should have been taxed and then the contributor is probably getting a "deduction" for their "donation" to drumpf. Is that what NBC did, donated in lieu of salary for the TV show? He's been giving speeches and receiving payment to the foundation, tax free.....been doing this since when? 2000 or so.............
L O C K H I M U P!!!
Even if the the aide was just asserting her own opinion -- if -- what he is doing spending the foundation money is illegal. But the aide is around the trumps a lot and would seem to know how they function. So you're right: Lock him up!
KewlKat
(5,624 posts)money. $50K from what I remember seeing. Wonder if he too get's contributions in lieu of taxable income to do with what ever...........maybe we should be looking at his.
One thing I did notice, when trying to find daddy's donation on his (Eric's) foundation income, Eric doesn't disclose his contributors.

(30,058 posts)when his brother ask for them to be returned he said he couldn't because he had glued them together. Once money was donated to the Trump Foundation then it becomes Trump's money to be used as "pay for play", he loves to play Pay for Play.

(5,624 posts)hope they make an ad out of that with the evidence that's been discovered.
Sunny05
(865 posts)it's no wonder that Trump offered to settle some cases by donating to charity. He knew damned well that the payment alone, sitting there on the tax form w/ no reference to its legal case settlement origins, would look normal to an IRS agent.
KewlKat
(5,624 posts)or art of the deal allow him to make contributions to charity? Doubtful they are all from NY? Is he sued beyond NY boundaries or would they always be in NY?
Now how can we get a list of his cases that were settled..............he knew what he was doing was illegal, thus the charade to hide it - donate my salaries to me, then flip them to another, hiding the tax savings. I think the kids aide will regret the day she spoke exposing this scam.
Hope we hear more of this story and perhaps catch her saying this on tape for future court actions.

(865 posts)I so hope more of this comes out.
madaboutharry
(40,236 posts)made years ago for $10.000. The Trumps used the foundation as their private ATM.
This is not complicated, it can be explained in simple terms that the public can understand. This is the exact thing, a rich man running a money laundering con, that pisses people off.
What is galling is the way Trump denigrates the Clinton Foundation and says that the Clintons used it to enrich themselves. What an example of projection.
If this is true, I hope he ends up in prison.
