That is my personal view, and it is based on the fact that the electoral college determine the president, and national polls do not adequately weight those states with more electoral votes verses those with less.

I know there are some schools of thought that believe that it may be a leading indicator, but give me the state polls, that will give me a clear picture where things stands:
