Related: About this forumTrump - not as smart as most fish
We don't think of fish as being overly smart, but once a lake or other fishing spot is subjected to a lot of fishing, the fish get much harder to catch. Either because of their own close calls or because they have seen their buddies caught, the fish start shying away from artificial and even live baits.
Yet Donald Trump, who likes to portray himself as mentally superior to us regular human beings, isn't as bright as fish. You don't need a wide assortment of lures in your tackle box when you are fishing for Trump. One standard bait is all you need. Just have an reputable human beings, like a gold star or a former Ms. Universe, accuse him of some past misdeed, he will swallow not only the bait and hook, but the line and sinker as well. Then he will damage himself irreparably as he performs verbal acrobatics at the end of the line in an attempt to strike back at the person(s) who originally attacked him.
He simply can't help himself. He has to strike back. But what kind of harm will he be able to do when his weapon is no longer just a Twitter account or a microphone and he has at his disposal the entire military and political might of the United States.
I just wish the fish I'm after were as compulsive as Donald Trump.

(13,776 posts)He doesn't need a stamp of approval from Congress--he can just order it.
And whereas to most sentient humans the horrors of nuclear war would suffice to put the brakes on going through with the whim of a moment, he has shown us over and over again that he's missing any kind of restraining bolt. I truly don't think it's an exaggeration to say that this would be a real cause for concern.

(5,648 posts)And his unwillingness to put in the time to learn the basics of the job.
Every new President has to learn on the job to some extent. Those who have served as Vice President, in an important cabinet position or on important Senate or House committees obviously have a leg up. Even former governors come to job with at least an understanding of what it takes to do an executive job in government. Obviously Trump would have the biggest learning curve.
However, he refuses to put in the time to learn the basics of the job he seeks. Sure when Presidents have to make important decisions they are surrounded by experts who can and will give them advice. But what if he doesn't even know enough to surround himself with good people or as I expect, he surrounds himself with people who will tell him only what he wants to hear. What does he do when as President he gets conflicting advise from several experts as normally happens. You have to know enough about a subject going in to be able to ask good questions, to know the reasons why certain advice is being offered and to be able detect who is bullshitting you because of they are trying to achieve their personal objectives.
I also am concerned whether Trump can concentrate on an issue long enough to be able to marshal the information necessary to make a good decision.
Let's hope a decision as to whether deploy our nuclear deterrent is never necessary in a Trump Presidency. I would not trust Trump with the power to make any important decisions.

(53,339 posts)...so his family can be properly slathered with it every night. If he'd gone fishing sometime the guy might have learned something. Wait...learned something, lol? What was I thinking?
Melania Trump on slathering her son Barron with fish eggs "from head to toe" every night.
