I'm headed to England for 2 weeks

Ready for a break from the election.

But I'm wondering if I'll be asked about our election and trump very much. This is a vacation so no real "scheduled" interactions with Brits one might have on a business trip, which makes me wonder if it'll come up at all.

Any DUers visit during this election cycle?

I'm going to do my part to calm nerves abroad but recognize there are probably folks there who I hope he wins.

I was in Ireland last year and had to set a guy straight about Obama in the most polite way I could muster at the time.

The other option is to just say I'm from Canada like I did anytime I traveled abroad from 2000-08.

I've been once before to England but didn't make it out of London and the Cotswolds. Looking forward to seeing other areas this time.

I love the north. I used to go to Llandudno, a nice resort town not far from Conwy, where there is a spectacular castle. Ok, there are lots of spectacular castles in Wales.

Enjoy my favorite place on the planet!

I studied there for a couple of years including over the Clinton/Bush election, which was far less newsworthy there, and it was a frequent topic as soon as they heard my accent. Their media commentators and comics are all over it right now. I became addicted to "The News Quiz" on Radio 4 and still listen to it to this day. The latest episode had quite a fun bit on the election - it's a podcast worth checking out and not just for that reason..

Trump is a twunt, wanker and/or tosser and the c word is very popular. You will fit right in then. Oh and pints always welcome

Keep a count of how many conversations involve some variant of "Are you Yanks out of your fooking minds?"

And we are nuts so hard to deny at this point. Anyway I'm not the evangelizing type and wouldn't in a million years bring it up on my own. Just as i wouldn't initiate a discussion on Brexit in casual conversation with a stranger.

Just learn about the round abouts if you drive. That was the hard part for me. As to the people they were great. This was pre-trump though. But was asked about "W" and just said he was a dumb ass. Got a big smile on that.

Had a very interesting conversation with a young Syrian couple who asked me directions (!!!) and we ended up discussing the coming American election -- Poppy Bush vs. Bill Clinton. It was very interesting to hear what the Mideasterners thought about the American elections and they wanted to know if Americans actually liked Bush.

My advice is to not worry about it. Have a great time!
