2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumis Hurricane Matthew the October Surprise?
In most election cycles, there's an external event that causes undecided voters to focus on what's at stake, and whether they feel either candidate is up to the challenge.
In 2008, it was the financial crisis--McCain showed erratic judgment, Obama showed steadiness.
In 2012, it was Sandy, where Obama showed that, yes, he's really good at doing the actual job of Presidenting.
In 2016, will Floridians (and others) ask themselves who they want in charge of emergency responses, Clinton or the demented man-toddler?

The speech was about Affordable Health Care.
Bill Clinton even gave his attention getting opening line for it the other day.
This sucks.

UPDATE: Obama's speech at USF has also been called off.
The Hillary Clinton campaign said President Obama's visit to Miami Gardens on Wednesday has been canceled due to Hurricane Matthew.
Obama was scheduled to make his Florida campaign debut during an afternoon rally at Florida Memorial University.
Presumably, the White House will scrap an Obama speech at USF in Tampa that same day. He was scheduled to talk about the Affordable Care Act.

As to the people/countries in the path of Hurricane Matthew, stay safe.

(30,481 posts)It really is huge and very few are happy with the way Scott has handled it. I know it isn't directly in line with your hurricane thought, but I do think your main premise is already happening in Florida and it is in line with that aspect. We are paying attention. It is frightening how Republicans are handling this. That thought process will broaden as the election comes closer.
For those not aware of the story at the link please take a minute to read it. It's devastating, depressing, and down right corporate and governmental fuckery.
I do agree with your thoughts about who people will want in a position to respond to crisis like hurricanes.
