2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs it tacky I still have my Obama sign up?
I was thinking of leaving it up until the inauguration just to rub it in to all those who pass by my house in Mormonland.
Am I being a sore winner?

(20,870 posts)There's a nut a few miles from here who put his flag upside down the day Obama won in '08. I guess he doesn't want to disrespect the flag because he replaced it when it got worn out last year. Hahaha. It's also amusing because in four long years he hasn't needed rescue yet.
I don't know what he's going to do now that the nation is "in peril" another four years. Maybe he'll just go ahead and put up a nazi flag. That'll teach us. I have a can of spray paint for painting yellow lines on pavement. Think about that.
What you're doing is good, and apparently the message will be well taken.

It survived 2008 and 2012. I had it taped to the outside of our 2nd floor bedroom window so no assholes could attempt to steal it.

(31,454 posts)the homes that had Obama/Biden signs are still displaying them. Only one Romney household can't let go. They've got two signs. It's a good thing that signs can't vote.

(1,209 posts)everyone's signs are down except one, which has a "Defeat Obama" sign from the NRA up still. It's getting ragged looking though, from the weather.

You have it lucky. My neighborhood is ruled by an HOA and campaign signs have to come down the day after the election.

(13,905 posts)I do route work (chimney sweep). I had backed up into his driveway, so all my stickers were obvious. The one that says "Jesus Is Coming....Look Busy" is the one he didn't like. I told him "oh c'mon, it isn't disrespectful to Jesus or anything, it's just funny as hell".
We wound up discussing Christianity and we were great friends by the time I left.

I still have my Sherrod Brown sticker on my bumper, a sign in the window, and I wear a small Obama logo pin on my collar. I'll probably remove them after the inauguration.

(6,785 posts)I don't know how long it'll be up. As often as I had to listen to right wingers preemptively gloat about how badly Obama was going to lose, I ought to leave it up until 2016.
Bigredhunk
(1,594 posts)One of the only local Dems who lost came and took his sign out of our yard before we could get to anything (I think it was the day after the election). That pissed me off a little, as we'd kept his sign from the last election out in our shed and put it back up this time (saving him $$ from providing another sign, saving him time from asking to put one up).
Do what you please. I think leaving yard signs in is gloating more than is keeping bumper stickers on your car. But given what they throw at Obama and those of us who support him, fuck them. I wouldn't leave them up myself.
After '08 we took our bumper stickers off our cars so as not to gloat. Then I saw so many people who never took theirs off (esp in somewhere cool like Madison, WI). Don't think I'll take it off this time. I didn't like when R's left their Shrub signs on for years, so maybe this is getting even or something.

(17,797 posts)...or something close to that, and they live in a very "red" town here in Georgia.
Btw, I remember seeing a LOT of Bush 2000, Bush '04 and even some Dole/Kemp (the 1996 losers) bumper stickers on the bumper of a lot of SUVs around here for 3 or 4 years after those elections.

(34,189 posts)When I leave the farm I think about taking down when I get home. Then I see how many Romney signs are still up and decide to just leave it a while longer. The people at the corner finally took their Romney sign down so maybe the day I will take mine in is getting closer.

This is too funny and deserves a revisit & a bump ^
Curious how many of you are still showing your support via yard signage? For what it's worth, I don't feel this is tacky at all. I still see Wrongney bumper stickers everywhere & think its a gas.
We just re-revisited this discussion in our home, our sign is still up and is looking a little ratty after all the snow. Neighborhood kids have let slip (isn't that always the way), that their parents were wondering if we were ever going to take our signs down. To be honest, until they asked I hadn't really given it much thought, it had become a "part" of our yard. My 2008 sign is still taped in the LR front window, since the yard sign(s) from that election kept disappearing or getting tattered. I left it up inside to show I continue to support O, and maybe a little of "see what happens when you steal or vandalize", but neither were left up out of malicious or provocative nature or intent.
Standing in line to vote in 2012, somehow all our neighbors with R signs in their yard (the above mentioned kids parents) showed up at the same time we did, LOL. Unfortunately, I had to keep my jacket zipped up tight, but couldn't get rid of my sh** eating grin. The glares and pursed lips were priceless. (To say we live in the wrong, or "right" area of elitist central would be an understatement)
My car still has the 2008 sticker, the 2012, and one other, nothing over the top. In Oct. a person spouting "family values", who only cared about HIS free speech, attempted to terrorize me for 20 minutes while driving through a metro city during rush hour traffic, while shouting obscenities at mother & child, with the N word utilized every 3rd word. My husband wanted me to remove everything politically related, he was worried about our safety & the effect on our biracial child. I'm no coward; our kid has to know this idiocy exists, & how to deal with bigotry & hatred since its a part of his present, & unfortunately it appears it's going to be a part of his future as well. I intend to leave my signage up so long as I feel inclined to do so, and have no homeowners association to taunt me.
Someone please tell me your sign is still up too so I don't feel like a stubborn old hold-out, lol.

If you're coming back, you might be interested in this thread. It's a suggestion about having a memorial here for DUers who have passed away. Do I remember you? I've been here since 2003!
Many people have proposed that we have a Memorial Group to commemorate our DUers who have passed...
