2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI can see large swaths of disenchanted RW voters giving up on the RNC and politics in general
Trump being slaughtered next month will have the effect among many R voters of being the result of an abject betrayal by the R Party to support him and, by extension, R voters.
These voters will never vote for a D, but they will now be so pissed off at Rs that they will swear off all politics for a while. They will hunker down in their personal bunkers and move ever further down the black hole of RW internet conspiracy theories and victimized outrage.
Which means that many of them will be ripe to consider a third-party alternative. The goal will no longer be victory at the polls, but disruption of a system they no longer trust. The effect on the Republican Party will be devastating, as they see their popularity and power ebbing away, along with support they have taken for granted for decades, both financially and at the ballot box.
We could be entering an era of progressive-dominated politics and policy in this country, an era that with a progressive-dominated SCOTUS will change the direction of this country, perhaps permanently.

(685 posts)White supremacy and belligerent anti-intellectualism are a sector of the populace and deserve representation in government.
But those creeds and those who hold them are dying off.
Currently alive Despicables will flaunt laws, drive drunk, on suspended licences, carry unlicensed/unregistered weapons, resist authority, rack up 'failure to appear' violations, get arrested/jailed, will face a shrinking job market for open racists.
And felons can't vote for the most part. And folks without cars.
