Hey GOP, take the Palin cure
She's hot, she's blue collar, she's electable.

The Republican Party has been doing a lot of hand-wringing and finger-pointing since the presidential election. Half the conservative columnists and bloggers say the GOP lost because it overemphasized social issues such as abortion and gay marriage. The other half says the party didn't emphasize them enough. And everyone denounces Project ORCA, the campaign's attempt to turn out voters via technology.
But I've got a suggestion for cutting short the GOP angst: Sarah Palin for president in 2016.
You think I'm joking? Think again.
In 2008, Palin, running as my party's vice presidential candidate, was widely supposed to have cost John McCain the election. But that wasn't so. A national exit poll conducted by CNN asked voters whether Palin was a factor in their voting. Of those who said yes, 56% voted for McCain versus 43% for Barack Obama.
Furthermore, Mitt Romney, the GOP's anointed contender this year, got almost a million fewer votes than McCain did in 2008. (Meanwhile, President Obama, although winning reelection, lost far more voters than the Republicans, with nearly 7 million fewer voters checking his name on their ballots than did in 2008).

Indies were the only real edge Romney had -- before he refused to show his tax returns.

(10,893 posts)Romney was pretty crazy himself, and even he got over 59M people to vote for him. Never underestimate the ignorance of American voters.

(3,502 posts)Yes, they should do it! They should start debate prep right now, because she's had four years to study up on things and she doesn't seem any smarter for it.

(594 posts)NY, NJ, some parts of VA and PA were highly affected by the storm some areas did not have their polling places open on election day. There was a report where it said almost three million ppl in NY and NJ didn't vote this time around as compared to 2008.
So Obamas popular vote count was affected by the storm. I also don't believe he won FL by only 70K. I know he won't it for more. Maybe 100k llore. A lot Of votes were misplaced and thrown out or disqualified.
I saw the lines where I live and can you a good estimate that voters were going for Obama.

(71,265 posts)a huge drop off. Jersey was even worse. The storm cost many votes for both of them. In jersey more for Romney because of the areas hit. In PA more democrats did not vote. In NY it was equal in the drop off. Your FL info is very interesting.
LukeFL
(594 posts)"equal" for Romney in NJ and NY in total votes or drop offs if you compare the votes from 08 and the votes casted in 12.
Obama wins Romney in NJ by more than 500K this year. He won over 1.5 million votes more in 08. So, Obama would have won almost 1 million votes more if sandy would have not hit and assuming all voters from 08 voted again for him in 2012.
Check also NY. same story there.

(24,857 posts)Oh, the euphemisms they come up with for election tampering...

If you buy into that bullshit, I've got a bridge to sell you.
And if you believe Karl Rove had nothing up his sleeve for this election, I've got some nice picturesque land with lots of cypress trees to sell to you.

(15,909 posts)I don't know enough about the author to guess based on that. While there are touches of humor that make the article sound tongue-in-cheek, I'm left with the overall impression that the author is serious -- and that would be seriously crazy.
