Do you remember the "Battle of the Sexes", Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs?

In 1973. Riggs had defeated world #1 Margaret Court earlier in the year, and was a heavy favorite against King.

He was destroyed in the match. Years later rumors and some evidence suggested that he threw the match to settle some gambling debts and stay alive. Can't post links at the moment but this is easy to google.

I saw the match live, and tenacious King was going to win no matter what.

But I wonder how much money Trump and his Mafia buddies put down on a Clinton Landslide months ago? Nah, he's just a stupid idiot and couldn't possibly be throwing red states, right?

King knew what Riggs was up against and they remained friends afterwards.

He did not train. He played the first set in his warm-up jacket (Sugar Daddy iirc).

I have no doubt King was not in on it. But it was a work.

I always thought it would make for a great movie.
