And talked about the elections they lost as if those were not legitimate.
I wasn't familiar with those two so I looked them up:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_gubernatorial_election,_2004
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_Minnesota,_2008
Both elections were contested and had a lot of contentious fighting over ballots. In both cases, ballots that had been 'lost' (Washington, 2004) or rejected (Minnesota, 2008) made the difference in the results. Neither election was illegitimate - though they might have been if those ballots had not been rediscovered or not found to be acceptable.
If this is what the Republicans consider to be 'rigged' elections, then the Democratic Party needs to be on alert. Allowing ballots to be lost as in Washington state - when absentee ballots were rejected because the signatures on the applications for them had not been scanned into the system for comparison - or not included in a recount of a close election because of questionable rejections is voter suppression.
The part the Republicans don't like about those two elections is that once all legitimate ballots were counted, the Democrats won. If the suppression of hundreds of absentee ballots in each state had been allowed, the Republicans would have won.
Every eligible voter should be allowed to vote and every ballot cast should be counted. Otherwise our elections are not legitimate!

(34,131 posts)In the Rossi-Gregoire recount, it was finding the ballots that had been rejected that changed the winner.
That's the point - in both of those elections, 'screw-ups' that caused ballots to be rejected could have caused a different result than the actual vote count. The Democratic Party needs to be sure that nothing like those cases happens anywhere in the country this year.
