Spent the day in Bridesburg, PA canvassing for Hillary and Katie McGinty

Three buses of volunteers from Long Island braved the first really raw Saturday to knock on doors and update voters on the technicalities of ID laws. Getting out that senate vote is imperative. Sometimes folks aren't even sure who the democratic challenger is.

Out of my team of four, two were Bernie voters (one also a Bernie volunteer) during the primary.

The mood on the ground is great.

I used to live in PA and was active with the Party there. I got two calls today. Politely told them we haven't lived there in almost a decade, but we would be voting Dem in Chicago!

Thank you, lapucelle!!!

That's one of the River Wards that are one of the GOP areas of the city. Unless the demographics have changed a lot since 2007, Bridesburg should be a hotbed of Trump supporters as it's white working class. How did it go canvassing?

but he was very nice to us. We saw some Trump signs and a portrait of Trump (in iconic Obama 2008 poster style) in a barber shop window.

Most of the people we spoke to were receptive, many enthusiastic, but we were working with DNC lists.

We were told by about five different people that they were so disgusted by this election cycle that they would not be voting. I did have a feeling that they were mostly Republicans disgusted by their party's nominee, so I'm kind of glad that they'll be staying home.

One guy would not let us talk to his wife (she was the Democrat on our list) and asked us what Hillary would be doing first, getting rid of the constitution or destroying democracy. I have a feeling that I know who the missus will be casting her secret ballot for on November 8. You can't be bullied in the privacy of the voting booth.

And a young couple on their way to the hospital to have their baby are both voting for Hillary. They were opening the door to leave as we were climbing the stoop.

I live in the section below in fishtown part of city. That's one of the last frank rizzo sections of city besides south philly but that area is starting to have a younger demo because northern liberties/fishtown is pouring into port Richmond sector of city.

Briesburg is heavy non college-working class

either against or in favor of Toomey.

People we spoke to who were Hillary voters seemed very receptive to voting for McGinty, but we had to start the conversation.

I did notice lots of anti-Toomey flyers tying him to NAFTA, so the McGinty volunteers must have canvassing today in the same neighborhood we were in.

in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I was all, SHE GAVE MONEY TO THE MAFIA!!!!!!!, or some Trumped up BS. I trashed it.

Thanks for your work. I did some literature distribution and phone work for Obama in the past, but this election has got me too worked up. I might be more of a detriment than a help. If they would let me do some kind office work, I'd gladly do it, but they never seem to need that sort of help. What you're doing seems to be what's most needed.

see if they need people to compile and record canvassing and phone bank data. There's a lot of excitement and energy at the PA DNC offices I've visited. All sorts of volunteers are needed .

It feels great to volunteer, and you'll have bragging rights when everyone talks about the great ground game the Democrats have.

Volunteers are the ground game!
