Huma Abedin has told people she doesn’t know how her emails wound up on her husband’s computer

Clinton aide Huma Abedin has told people she doesn’t know how her emails wound up on her husband’s computer

By Matt Zapotosky, Tom Hamburger and Karen Tumulty

Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has told people she is unsure how her emails could have ended up on a device she viewed as her husband’s computer, the seizure of which has reignited the Clinton email investigation, according to a person familiar with the investigation and civil litigation over the matter.

The person, who would not discuss the case unless granted anonymity, said Abedin was not a regular user of the computer, and even when she agreed to turn over emails to the State Department for federal records purposes, her lawyers did not search it for materials, not believing any of her messages to be there.

That could be a significant oversight if Abedin’s work messages were indeed on the computer of her estranged husband, former congressman Anthony Weiner, who is under investigation for allegedly exchanging lewd messages with a 15-year-old girl. So far, it is unclear what — if any — new, work-related messages were found by authorities. The person said the FBI had not contacted Abedin about its latest discovery, and she was unsure what the bureau had discovered.

According to federal law enforcement officials, investigators found thousands of messages on Weiner’s computer that they believe to be potentially relevant to the separate, Clinton email investigation. How they are relevant — or if they are significant in any respect — remains unknown.

This is probably actually good news. It likely means she used it a few times and didn't realize it synced her emails to the machine. So these are likely duplicates already viewed by the FBI.

That will give us great comfort when Comey finally announces this at a February press conference with President Trump as he announces the dissolution of Congress.

Ok that last line is me being angry about this whole god damned thing. Republicans are evil.

was inexplicably linked in ways we'd never seen before. Any message of any kind comes in everywhere, and anything either of us sends out pops up everywhere also.

Now, we are two 72-year-old codgers and not in public office, but I have no problem believing that somebody has no idea how something turned up on their spouse's computer.

Use these steps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
1. Tap Settings > iCloud. If you're using iOS 8 or later, tap Storage > Manage Storage. ...
2. Tap the name of your iOS device.
3. Under Backup Options, turn off any apps that you don't want to back up.

Where all devices that share the same network are downloaded pictures, texts, emails etc.

If this is the case, then these are just copies of emails that the FBI has already seen.

BTW... In theory under this scenario, if Huma were to by a new iPhone, take it home and use her wifi account, all of that information would download again.

So basically, every time Huma buys any type of Internet device, the FBI has to re-open its investigation. That's how ridiculous this is.

Is he had an outlook or other client for his personal emails, and these were emails she sent him from work.

When I worked in an office, I would frequently send my wife emails from my work account. It was before smartphones, and was easier then calling. Plus public email was blocked.

So we would chat back and forth. Some of it was probably me venting about work.

So if she did that, he could have a lot of emails she sent him. But not really work emails, though some of it about work.

I tend to think ignorance, not malice, explains many issues where computers are concerned.

If two people were using the same computer, each with their own separate logon ID and password, and they weren't sharing passwords, if each one accessed their own Email, depending upon the Email client, they would certainly have each other's Email on the same computer.

If they shared a computer logon, which isn't a crime if it's personally owned, then they could have one another's Email within the same logon space. Many Email stores aren't encrypted by default.

Most people don't have good password practices. Even IT people generally use weak passwords. Most re-use the same password for everything (work, bank, water bill, credit card, Amazon, Hulu, etc.) so a husband and wife accessing any joint accounts would likely use a common password.

While sharing passwords isn't a good practice, it doesn't imply criminal intent. One could fail to notice that Email was signed into their spouse's Email account until after composing and sending an Email.

It makes for good headlines, but it doesn't necessarily make for good reporting.

If it was classified and her husband had access they would blame Hillary.
