A lie is a statement that contradicts what one believes to be true, even if one's beliefs are erroneous or opposed to facts.

If you say something you believe to be true, but which is objectively false (opposed to reality), you are not lying. You are simply mistaken, ignorant, or uninformed.

You can intentionally lie, but say something that happens to be true.

You can intentionally tell the truth, but say something that is factually wrong.
