The future of James Comey as head of the FBI

I think he is pretty secure in his position as head of the FBI for the foreseeable future, unless a President Trump fires him. I doubt a President Clinton could fire him without stirring up a political s##t storm and given his recent defense, I doubt President Obama would fire him anytime soon

There will be no president Trump. Comey will resign most like to avoid criminal charges. Comey is toast. He is a partisan hack who got caught.

when it becomes common knowledge that Comey outed Clinton for more emails while sitting on the Trump/Russia information, I think his career will be toast.
I could be wrong though.

But if he refuses he will be fired. President Clinton (or Obama) will reluctantly accept the resignation and thank him for his tremendous service to the FBI and USA. We are a civilized country after all.

to the words of the press secretary.
Obama praises Comey but won't comment on the letter.

It sounds like Obama has prepared his speech in accepting the Comey resignation.

President Obama needs to do Hillary a favor and fire Comey the day after the election. That makes it one thing she will not have to deal with when she takes office and it will have a negligible effect on his legacy. The people that support Obama wont care and the ones that cant stand him already have their opinions.
