Catholic Church that doubles as polling place hands out flier linking Hillary to Satan

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/11/catholic-church-that-doubles-as-polling-place-hands-out-flier-linking-hillary-to-satan/

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, which is located in the Old Town neighborhood of San Diego and that will be a polling place on election day, distributed a weekly newsletter in mid-October that had a flier inserted in it that told parishioners they’d go to hell if they voted for Democrats.

“It is a mortal sin to vote Democrat,” read the flier. “Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell.”

Two weeks later, another flier was stuffed into a church bulletin that claimed Hillary Clinton was using the tactics of organizer Saul Alinsky to do Satan’s bidding.

“The devil does this through tactics outlined by Saul Alinsky,” it read. “As Hillary Clinton stated, ‘And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed,’ to draw us away from God’s teachings regarding the sanctity of life to those of the world and its prince.”

"Only the Young Die Young" Billy Joel

Come out, Virginia, don't let me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one
They showed you a statue and told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
But they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done...
Only the good die young

You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain't too pretty, we ain't too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
But that never hurt no one
So, come on, Virginia, show me a sign
Send up a signal I'll throw you the line
The stained-glass curtain you're hiding behind
Never lets in the sun
Darling, only the good die young

You got a nice white dress and a party on your confirmation
You got a brand new soul
And a cross of gold
But, Virginia, they didn't give you quite enough information
You didn't count on me
When you were counting on your rosary

They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
The sinners are much more fun...
You know that only the good die young

You say your mother told you all that I could give you was a reputation
She never cared for me
But did she ever say a prayer for me?

Come out, come out, come out
Virginia, don't let me wait,
You Catholic girls start much too late,
But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one,
You know that only the good die young
Tell you baby
You know that only the good die young
Only the good die young
Only the good
Only the good die young

To be clear: churches are allowed to take stands on political issues or referenda, but they are absolutely NOT allowed to advocate for one candidate over another in a political race.

CNN was interviewing people outside of a Trump rally a week or so ago, and there were some very scary answers as to why they were supporting Trump. There were some evangelical types that were claiming that Trump is all shiny and religious now (one woman was very fervently claiming that Trump had been chosen by god, the Christian one of course, to be president)

I am sure they are hoping that some church attendees will think (mistakenly) that Father "John" or the diocese or church itself is issuing some sort of explicit position on the presidential election.

The language sounds rather evangelical/conservative Protestant -- I wonder if some enterprising evangelical took it upon himself/herself to "guide" the Catholic vote.

The diocese said the flier was not authorized by the parish, but it was somehow inserted into the Oct. 16 bulletin ...
