Clinton looks to reinforce Michigan as internal polls tighten

Last edited Sat Nov 5, 2016, 11:31 PM - Edit history (2)

(CNN)Hillary Clinton's campaign, in the waning days of the election, has turned its focus to Michigan, a state that months ago was considered safely in the Democratic nominee's column.

Clinton will make her second visit to Michigan in four days when she campaigns in Grand Rapids on Monday, the day before the election. Clinton has so far only spent four days campaigning in Michigan since the Democratic National Convention in July, a number that pales in comparison to the 13 days she has spent in Florida and the 10 days in Ohio.

President Barack Obama will also campaign in Ann Arbor -- home to the University of Michigan -- on Monday, looking to boost millennial voters the day before Election Day.

The trips reflect a growing concern that Michigan could land in Donald Trump's column on Tuesday.
"The numbers there have tightened," Robby Mook, Clinton's campaign manager, said Saturday, adding later that the tightening has been seen throughout the Midwest.

"We're taking that seriously," he said.

A recently released Detroit Free Press poll found that Clinton is up 4 points in Michigan, 42% to Trump's 38%.
Clinton's campaign has leaned heavily on its ground game to turn out voters early in key swing states, trying to "bank" votes before Election Day. The campaign has particularly seen early voting gains in Florida, Nevada and North Carolina. Some aides are quietly confident that, given the turnout figures in Nevada so far, the state could already be in Clinton's column.
Most voters in Michigan, though, cast their ballots on Election Day, adding a level of volatility to the state that worries Clinton aides.

I'm in a fairly safe state for Hillary, but we are pushing hard here locally to help add to the popular vote total.

3. You can tell which states are considered critical and close enough by where each campaign will be

especially Hillary's campaign which actually has internal polls (supposedly Trump doesn't according to another story I read here).

That's a good way to see where things are changing that will effect the outcome.

That's why I am ignoring the Iowa poll, for example. No one is going there because Iowa has been in Trumps column for a while.

That's why I am not posting today's Iowa poll, posting on an increase for him there would be meaningless.

Never heard of it. Also campaigns typically dont release info on their internal polls during the election. Obamas team didnt release their internal polls from 2012 until just recently. This whole story seems suspicious

Seems its a local paper in Clearfield, PA that gets copy from CNN.

Let me see if I can find another source... oh, it says right in the OP that this is from the CNN Election section...

I will see if I can edit this op using that as the source. Thanks

Thanks. It's funny what articles pop up first in google sometimes, I would have though CNN would have shown up for me before Gant Daily carrying a CNN story.

I have been working the GOTV for last 4 weekends
Not sure what kind of secret bullshit is going on in the Trump campaign.
Thing changed here around Tuesday of this week.
First, I started noticing some bumper stickers. (on back windows, for easy removal)
Then I ran into a few areas that were plastered with Trump signs, I mean Plastered.
Some neighborhoods had them around like No Trespassing signs.
My home district isn't bad. But the Harrison Twp area is terrible.
The Lake St. Clair Shore front is really bad. Very high rent district.
Glad we called in the heavy hitters.
GOTV has always been fun for me, this year is different, much different, people are guarded, almost frightened to speak.
This not the America I want.
But I will continue work hard till the last vote is cast.

8. Maybe a ploy to make Trump think Michigan is winnable?

So he'll waste resources in Michigan instead of in states he might have a shot at winning? I don't like the whole concept of "six dimensional chess" but this whole election is a mindfuck.

13. Take that up with CNN its their article. Good Greif.

Seriously, its a CNN article.

Do you realize how accusing me of purposely posting what you say is a CNN lie, well, makes you sound ridiculous?

Take up your conspiracy theory with CNN, its THEIR article. lol

Your continued rudeness and onslaught of accusations has reached the point where I honestly am concerned for you.

Please think about the fact that CNN, a major reputable news service posted this article, not me.

CNN wrote it, not me.

Maybe, just maybe, don't you think it might just be possible that CNN was told something about those internal polls by a source they have?

If you think CNN is outright lying, there's not much more I can add to this discussion.

Enjoy your evening.
